Reid was successful at this level and unsuccessful at the level above. He should make Stranraer competitive in League 1, but that's all they'll do. A Brechin/Forfar type club. Aitken was Stranraers opportunity to go up and once he jumped ship, that was that. Reid had us punching below our weight and established us in the league below where we should have been. Stranraer are a third tier side so he will have his work cut out keeping them above their natural level. To be fair Reid should have put him out his misery much earlier but it was apparent Cameron learned little by appointing Roberts. His record at Ayr is helped by the DL cash situation , Roberts ability and the lack of a competent manager since McLeod. It speaks volumes for Reids ability that he was reliant on a committee sneaking him in via the backdoor to get another job in Scottish football. Not having a dig ,but for a few years now Ayr has been below Championship standard, but should always be near, and def should always be in playoffs, and if promoted would find it hard to survive in that league, unless a sugar daddy wants to pump money in. They do still get some players signed that could maybe be of championship standard, but you need a squad of these guys to compete week in and out. But ever since Mr Barr's money left, it's been nearly all downhill. Take a look at leagues in Britain you could nearly put £ signs next to position in League. Look at Alloa now, lost the manager and are slowly coming back down. Cowden lost the players and came back down, although it may have been avoided had their board acted. If McCall takes us up, it'd probably be the toughest league we'd have had in the Champiobship and I'd reckon it is the best chance we'd have had to stay there. Money is probably a decent manager but his timing was lousy coming to Ayr as the large volumes of cash being invested were turned off and our state of finances meant it was going to be a tough job for anyone.
