Some dark subject matter, but incredibly interesting. The CBC podcasts that I have listened to - Someone Knows Something, Uncover, Finding Cleo and Finding Warhead - have all been exceptional. Agreed. Hunting Warhead was incredible throughout and still managed to have a punch to the guts at the end. CBC investigative podcasts, as far as I know to comment on, have all been exceptional examples of journalism. On 09/06/2020 at 07:40, mathematics said: Have we seen the last of Athletico Mince? Despite Andy's "outburst", I'd be amazed if this was the case. Not commenting, in much the same way that Stewart Lee ignored the whole Tugendhat cancelling thing, seems to be the way to play out these cancelling moments. People forget. Plus, I think a lot of the Mince audience would enjoy giving Gove a boot to the knackers. If it is the end, it's a shitty way to go out. Faux outrage at its peak. This sounds snide and I don’t mean to be, but how can you not believe people were bothered about something you don’t know about? I’m the same in that I don’t know about it and haven’t looked it up so I’ve no idea if folk are right to be bothered or not?

Without giving too much away it's a fascinating insight into how a few owners and users of sites on the dark web were tracked down. I thought I wouldn't have been able to stomach it but it doesn't get into too much graphic detail apart from a few WTF moments. Couldn't stop listening, highly recommended. Finally got round to listening to that, really good series. Like you, couldn't stop listening, ended up doing the whole series in 1 day. Quite a few disturbing moments, and pretty fucked up stuff but really interesting to hear it all from that perspective. I've also listened to "Wind of Change" recently, another one I couldn't stop listening to. Whole thing available on Spotify, or coming out week by week elsewhere. The premise of the story is that the presenter of the podcast and his mate, who is a well connected Washington type/New Yorker, have heard a rumour about the song "Wind of Change" being written by the CIA. Fascinating story, I'm not a conspiracy type but found it a really good listen.

He is discussed in the podcast - a pretty dishonest human being by all accounts, certainly not someone who should have been behind a powerful weapon in a stressful situation. Never mind two. If you haven't already listened to the Slate podcast on Ruby Ridge and the BBC one on Waco - then you should definitely do so. Both utterly fascinating - and give a good insight into the weird world of American firearms and police. Another good podcast along similar lines is Bundyville, about the Occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Podcast link on NPR. I've listened to both seasons, and are well worth a listen. Have you seen the TV series(about Waco) with Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch? Would be interesting to know how accurate it is. Really enjoyed the show, didn't know much about the Waco situation tbh
ICTChris
I'm almost finished Hunting Warhead, really intersting if horribly dark. The episode with Faulkner talking from prison is a perfect case study in self justication and a form of psychopathy. A truly evil individual.
Marshmallo
I enjoyed Wind of Change and I like a conspiracy theory, but there is no way the CIA wrote that song -

Spoiler The way he talks was genuinely disturbing, he truly doesn’t see the problem with what he has done I think. I think the way he talks at the end also just shows how full of shit he is.
Fratelli
Not sure if it's been mentioned here before, but i'm a big fan of Matt Morgan's 'Funny how' podcast. Morgan wrote most of Russell Brand's material through his heyday and was on the old radio shows with him, but has predominantly made his living as a sitcom writer. I find him on his own to be one of the funniest folk about, but the podcast is him talking nonsense with comedians and actors mainly, However the best ones by far are recorded phone calls between him and Noel Gallagher (who he's close pals with). Have never heard Gallagher as candid, or with his guard down as much. They're all very funny and are generally just both of them telling stories and talking about lockdown, comedy, music etc but they occasionally go a bit deeper. One of the stand out bits was NG talking about his experience with panic attacks and paranoia brought on by drug use in the 90s. He's always been a good interview, but he seems like quite an introspective, thoughtful guy when he's not playing up to the arrogant grumpy manc thing, he tells a few stories about his life pre fame and gives the impression there's another side to him folk don't see.

Shandon Par
New series of Revisionist History out now. It's not really anything to do with history. The presenter, Malcolm Gladwell, looks at an event or organisation and tries to re-evaluate them and how we can interpret and learn from them today. One of those shows that's light enough to be entertaining yet also leaves you feeling smarter for having listened to it. You'll pick up some amazing general knowledge from it. Also, Louis Theroux has done a podcast (10 of them so far). They can be a bit patchy as it's clearly not a format he's used to. He can get a bit spooked if they drift odd topic and his questions can be a bit formal but a couple of episodes in particular showed him at his best. Louis and Troy Deeney, Watford captain, may sound like an unusual combination but it was a great listen.
Nadroj
I’ve started a music podcast where I talk to a bunch of different guests about 3 tunes that mean a lot to them / have inspired them / just tunes that they like. Hoping to get a wider variety of guests going forward but have had some cracking guests so far if you are into the Scottish punk/indie scene. I’ll fire the links to it below if anyone fancies it. WhiteRoseKillie
I've listened to a few comedy podcasts recently: Katherine Ryan, telling everybody.. - I agree that she has struck a winning formula. Can get into some seious shit without sounding like the streotypical shouty feminist. Shagged, Married, Annoyed - Easy pick this, but have really enjoyed it. There's some really juvenile stuff, Chris and Rosie bounce off each other really well, and there's a weird role-reversal subplot going on due to the lockdown. No surprise this is so popular. Elis james and James Robbins - Gentle listening covering life in the time of Covid, couple of lads trying to still be young and not quite pulling it off. Better than I've made it sound. Lockdown parenting hell - I'll give Widdicombe a pass for now, largely for his support/straight man work on TLL, but Rob fucking Beckett? When we get back to normal, can we just not tell this cúnt? Wall his house up, or something? (While his Missus and kids are out - I'm not a monster!) When the loudest laugh comes from the person telling the joke, this tells you something*. *McIntyre's law, as it should be known.

There are probably only a couple of episodes of Katherine Ryan that I didn't think were excellent. If you only stumbled across those episodes it could give a false picture of it. Always enjoyed Elis & John's podcasts (go way back to Radio X before the BBC ones too) but they can get a bit heavy on the boozing tales as it sets me on edge so not listened for a while.
