Would be absolutely spectacular if the Celtic faithful fill Parkhead to welcome Rodgers only for Yogi to waddle out and start mumbling away

If Rodgers signs then that's a real statement of intent by Glasgow Celtic Football Club.

Intent to be arrogant and blame others for mistakes?

The problem is Rodgers signs players from Southampton and Celtic sell players to Southampton.

rodgers a stick on now.

highest paid manager in scottish football history......and he wont accept unless he has substantial backing which he will get i would think.

celtic could make a real statement of intent with rodgers being appointed and a big transfer kitty....speculate to accumulate.

I think Rodgers would be a good appointment tbh. A lot better than someone like Keane or Lennon.

Mark Warburton agrees with you so Celtic fans should be concerned.

The seethe and meltdowns of Keane and Lennon would be more entertaining.

Did Liverpool not use a transfer committee?

Yes and Rodgers was on it. He wanted those players and the committee agreed to pay those inflated fees (plus the agents' commissions). James Milner, a free, must have got a good signing on fee too.

Some interesting quotes here:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-transfer-committee-final-say-7193970

He said: "You want a player in and there's a list of players, but if the player you want isn't on that list, you have to take someone.

"You can't have no players. If you want a left-back, but the one you want isn't available, then there is a list of three or four.

"You then have to take the best in that group. It is the model."

Celtic are in a position where simply qualification for the Champions League in addition to winning the league would be progress. Do they really need such an expensive option to meet these goals?

Looks like they're going all out for the highest top trumps score this time.

Exactly as Firhill says. This is a massive risk for both.

For Rodgers - he has to win trebles and take the club forward in Europe or his reputation goes nowhere.

For the club - they'll be paying top money for the mumbling idiot, he's a 'big' name in Celtic terms. Is he a big enough pull to bring in proper quality players to the Scottish league? Sceptical. Effectively paying about ten times Deila's wage for him to set the team up differently.

(I still don't believe it'll be him tbh.)

Rodgers would be by far the best appointment, of course whoever they appoint will be criticised in some shape or form for some reason.

Awaits being called 1888Lichtie even though I've commented on the managers position at both Raith and ICT in the last 24 hours.

Excellent, as I said hopefully he spunks obscene amounts of money like he did at Liverpool.

regardless.....aberdeens chance is long gone you will slip into mediocrity again you have sevco to fight with for 2nd place.

If the speculation about Rodgers is true, it's a very ambitious move from Celtic.

It would certainly boost season ticket sales, if they announce it in the next few days, could be quite lucrative for the club.

Of all the names mentioned, he's certainly a top pick.
