New Forth Road Bridge Closed, old one reopens

Recommended Posts

Expect crime to rocket as Fife wake up believing they just started a new game of Grand Theft Auto.

Fantastic plan. We'd merely have to activate the flying cars cheat, problem solved.

f**k that, Edinburgh traffic/parking would still be as hellish as ever.

L1, L2, R1, R2, Up , Down, Left, Right, L1, L2, R1, R2, Up , Down, Left, Right.

Everybody can just jetpack themselves over. ;)

I would have thought so, but the sheer volume of extra traffic will presumably create further problems.

In fact will the Kincardine Bridge cope with extra strain?

Better close it as a "precautionary" measure, imo.

Any word on what traffic is like round Stirling due to the closure -any impact?

Looks alright, but then again it's only nearly 3 o'clock. Give it an hour and all north/south traffic will be jammed solid from north of Dunblane to the M876 junction and beyond. Would guess the road round Sprinkerse to Banockburn to the M8/M9 Services roundabout will be a mare too.

Not that I care as it will be a nice short trip home to be cozy in front of the fire with a beer in time to catch the end of pointless. Up ye.

The Tories seem to want to keep the bridge open or use magic to fix it by next week or something:

Scottish Conservative transport spokesman Alex Johnstone has described the closure of the Forth Road Bridge "a scandal".

He added: "Although the repairs are necessary for the safety of the public, the fact that the decision has been taken to close it for so long, shows a complete lack of forward-thinking by Derek Mackay and the SNP government.

What we need is a bit of snow and ice to make the commute more of a challenge. Might get a reality show out of it.

They should make a Tartan Noir film that starts with a body lying horizontally on the middle of the bridge, 6 fingered hand and webbed foot on the north side, normal hand and foot on the south.

Such is life. You would be a pretty shite opposition party if you didn't try to make political capital out of this.

Can't recall which of the parties were against the new bridge, but incidents like this make them look a bit shit. The Greens were on of the parties.

Ludicrous to blame anyone for a defect in the bridge - these things happen.

What we can criticise is the (apparent) lack of planning for such an eventuality to occur. Given the importance of the route you'd have thought there would be a contingency plan in place that just needs dusted down when this happens.

Agreements with ferry operators, bespoke train and bus time tabling on trains, removal of some light controlled junctions etc. loads could be done automatically but doesn't seem to be

You could also possibly blame poor maintenance regime. Might be the case. Either way, there's going to be a lot of pissed off voters. Might as well make the most of it. People want someone to blame.

Booked my train (and hotel) to Edinburgh for the street party back in October. Happy days.

Sorry to tell you, it is now December so you will have missed it.
