Check Discogs for price guide but it is only that of course. Condition is the major factor. Also maybe search for a specialist Facebook page for the group/genre. stevieKTID Posted February 16, 2019 Share Posted February 16, 2019 Had quite a decent collection when i was in my teens and early twenties, sold or gave away most of it when i left Scotland as it was too much to take with me, got a record player a few years ago and have started buying vinyl again regularly, the only semi annoying thing is im buying stuff that i used to own, in some cases i'm buying albums for the 2nd or 3rd time, case in point i reckon i've bought Low by Bowie at least 3 times. Try looking up your records on eBay then Discogs to see what I mean. Anyway, my latest adventures in vinyl has been receiving somebody's teenage collection of early Nineties rave 12"s - literally hundreds of the fuckers. Made a couple of hundred quid out of them so far, but the state of the vinyl is haunting me; the original owner was literally using some of them as beermats. Have a coffee shop in Rothesay with a Technics deck and Yamaha amp there are around 300 albums for customers to pick and play. Be honest when grading as collectors can be a bit miffed if a cover is graded Excellent but has a split seam or marks. Same with the vinyl itself. Spend a few quid on Vinyl cleaner - sprays on and wipe with a soft cloth. I always state that the LP will be posted in a cruciform box with a couple of inserts (buy them in bulk on Ebay). Take LP and sleeve out of cover, place behind cover and inserts for extra support. Tape round edges. Maybe offer PO Signed for service. Check out Vinyl Tap. They have a section on how they grade vinyl. It's also a first class place to buy rare (and not so rare) LPs. They have a daily arrivals page. Great to look at even if not buying. Had sticky fingers with a gold zip while the vinyl was white label. A customer is a huge Stones fan so I gave him my copy for his normal copy he will get more pleasure from it than I would. He had been searching for a original copy of their debute album so I gave him that also. He was like a wee child at Christmas. One album I do regret not buying was Happy Monday's Pills N Thrills it was going for £200. The cover was of sweety wrappers very rare which Happy Monday's had to change due to copyright. I'm currently looking for excellent copies of LPs to replace less than perfect copies of mine. Really only got rid of LPs in fine nick I no longer played. So far no regrets! I recognise the "should have bought". Missed out on a few because of waiting. Last week I bought Next by SAHB and Caravans Plump in the Night. Great. All still in there plastic wrap. You'd probably pay three times as much in shops. I had everything that I would have wanted but might be of interest to others. However it is now time to invest on some decent equipment to play them on rather than the crappy all in one I bought for £60 when I started. I have a budget of £200-£250 for a turntable, amp and speakers, obviously will need to be 2nd hand given the limited funds. Gumtree seems to be limited on local stuff and not sure if I'd want this sort of equipment handled by a gorilla of a courier driver. Can anyone recommend any shops in the Fife / Edinburgh / Dundee where you can get reasonable equipment at a decent price ?
