Former SNP leader Alex Salmond has announced the creation of a new pro-independence party which will stand in the Scottish Parliament election

Called The Alex Salmond Party, Alex Salmond will announce his special Alex Salmond policies on Alex Salmond-headed notepaper signed by Alex Salmond himself using his very own Alex Salmond pen.

He's just going to split the green list vote. What the f**k is he doing

I think it’s quite safe to say that anyone who is even considering voting for the Greens won’t be voting for this party instead. They’ll take some of the list vote from the SNP, probably not very much though. The only probable losers seat wise are Labour and the Tories

The very first candidate they mentioned, Eva Comrie, starting banging on about “equalities policy”

So, the Wings party it is, then. Safely in the bin.

Edit: and the bold Stu has turned up himself now.

Eva Comrie is a very out-there transphobe who blocks *everyone* on Twitter who says anything positive about trans people or trans rights.

Chris McEleney the biggest name joining so far...

Who?

Inverclyde councilor who is pretty much disliked by all the SNP members I know. He also pops up at various rallies thinking he's Jimmy Reid but he's more like a poundlands bargain bin  Tommy Sheridan impersonator

On the list or in a constuency?

If he does it he should go somewhere that has zero SNP or Green seats.

Central Scotland and NE Scotland are the only regions this would apply to.

If he is genuinely only interested in independence then it will be on the list for one of those - NE Scotland would be the likely one.

Is this some sort of super irony I don’t understand?

Salmond has abandoned any genuine political goals, this latest move is simply confirmation of that.

He’s more interested in blocking Sturgeon from delivering Independence than he is about anything else.  Hubris and personal animosity above all else.

What a tragic end.

This.

It's a win-win for the SNP.

If they are successful then it's Labour and the Tories who will lose seats.

If they fail hhe will still be yesterday's man.

I’d never heard of her, but this isn’t even remotely surprising. Pretty certain McEleny is a transphobic w**k as well.

I’m not sure if a collection of the biggest dickheads in the SNP will be quite as popular as they hope.

Ive always thought a more radical Independence Party is a good thing. Keeps the nutters in their own wee party and they can perhaps get away with saying things the SNP can’t. SNP can disassociate themselves from these people/more radical ideas which the can’t if they’re still in the ‘big tent’ of the SNP.

What he's always done - fluffing his massive ego.

Support for both the SNP and independence jumped as soon as he quit because women didn't like him. People used to say the SNP had a problem attracting women voters - turns out it was just him and his massive macho ego that repelled them.
