Over a year since he resigned as FM, has been followed by an even more popular and personable protege, and yet Salmond is still the go-to guy when the satirical uber-regionalists want a bogeyman to voice hatred of.

Well done, Eck. An excellent lightning rod for the "SNPBAD" mob whilst Nicola Sturgeon basks in glowing approval.

The PM of the sovereign state of the U.K., you mean? As opposed to a backbench MP of an opposition party who still, quite remarkably, is the bete noir of the Scottish regionalists?

Why is he the foreign affairs spokesman for the largest party representing Scotland in Westminster then if he couldn't be arsed? Could he not have arranged his portrait thing for another day when one of the most important debates in relation to foreign affairs in this country is taking place today?

Is it also a necessity just because he is a prominent member of the SNP and former First Minister that people just blindly support everything he does? He comes out of that looking like a bit of a knob when he puts a portrait before a major political debate.

It wasn't a debate today as there's no vote.

And he was in Holyrood in his capacity as an MSP. He's still a member of both parliaments, remember.

Sheesh, Salmond doesn't half excite some people.

Oh honey. I'm sure it's an absolutely amazing portrait. Would you have expected Queen Elizabeth I to waste her time in parliament when she could be viewing Nicholas Hilliard's latest effort? This one would look excellent sitting in Bute House. Although to be honest it would be better in Holyrood House when Salmond is inaugurated as our first President, and Mrs Windsor and her cousin Mr Cameron are an unpleasant memory in Scotland's pre-national consciousness.

Don't actually think he is sleeping in that photo, he's leaning in and speaking in the guys ear who is writing Alex's great wisdom down onto paper.
