I’ve just seen a bumper sticker that said

”If you don’t get behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them”

that’s a nice sentiment eh?

I thought they hated that?

This photo is taken from the inside.

It's your window, isn't it, you great big Rememberer?

My pal shared it on fb. She'll be livid if she ever found out I shared this on a thread mocking the poppy shite tbf (i hope she has no friends on here aside from me.....)

Aside from the mawkish sentimentality, I'd have thought she would want to maximise the natural light coming in her window now the days are getting shorter rather than covering it up.

I also think the poppies look like arseholes with piles. (I used to work in a care home, before you ask how I know such things).

I wish I could afford to live in a house with windows that big.....

But maybe I'm protesting too much here.

In all seriousness though, given the sheer amount and rolls of the stuff, I can see her not stopping at just the one window.

War Chrismas indeed.

One of my grandpas go shot in world wars 1 & 2. He was to be awarded medals and the freedom of the town etc but told them to stick it as he just wanted to move on. There were plenty like him who would be disgusted at the "are brave boys" stuff today.

This thing has really got out of hand these days, it’s so far removed from what it was originally set up for. The ‘Poppy police’ raging about who does and who doesn’t wear a Poppy on TV are the very worst. It seems a whole industry has spawned from this mawkishness every Autumn. I’m happy to make a small donation every year no problem, but I’m not sure how that equates to ‘wearing a Poppy with pride’. There doesn’t feel much to be proud about. Shock, horror and sadness feels much more akin to what happened to those who willingly but unwittingly marched to their deaths over a century ago. As for more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan for example, there’s very little pride attached to our involvement as a nation for most people I’m sure?

Both my grandads died before I knew them but I had a great-uncle who served in the trenches. Wasn't shot but he did his bit. He hated everything related to  war, particularly films. I remember him saying "They make it look like fun." He refused to wear a poppy, partly out of animosity to Gen. Haig but mostly because he, like your grandpa, thought we should just move on.

Captivating to listen to this story from a WWI German soldier. f**k yer poppies.

I noticed the British Legion refer to Remembrance as being the ideal time to "reflect upon the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, and to join together in the hope for a brighter, peaceful future" and sums up what I would consider the point of wearing a poppy to be. This video clip is the perfect illustration of why we should all be hoping for a peaceful future rather than glorifying acts of war.
