The James McClean Sponsored Poppy Thread

Recommended Posts

The really funny thing about most these poppy shaggers is they mostly have lesser knowledge of WW1.  The event the poppy was used as a symbol for.  Mostly because television prefers to cover its younger sexier brother WW2.  Ask any gammon about any British WW2 battle and they can probably get the date right overall.  Ask about Ypres or Cambrai and I bet you'd get a blank expression.

Charities probably do a better job of looking after ex Forces members than the government would, but that doesn't make it right that the government practically washes its hands of ex Forces once they become ex.
On the other hand, the government would probably just waste whatever extra they raised from taxation which was designed to help ex Forces.

The people involved might care more (unsure if I actually believe this) but charity by its nature can’t provide the resources a government program could. At the same time tho yea it’s not like we have a government which is interested in providing decent public services so who knows.
