The James McClean Sponsored Poppy Thread

Recommended Posts

I’ve been asked to share a photo of a lorry on Facebook. Apparently if a million people do this before November 11th then...well I’m not sure anything will happen but it seems like a splendid way to show everyone how much I remember dead soldiers.

Those who make the greatest play of wearing poppies to honour the dead are also those most likely to support military incursions.

I prefer a wee bit of this if I need reminded of the horror and futility of war.

This is from 5 years ago and I think he's still going strong...

First time I’ve read that article and I think it’s brilliant. The author, I think, nails the crux of all things/ problems armistice in this country.

daft old bugger -flippant and shallow IMO - no mention whatsoever of how the Old Firm clubs have embraced the whole thing with such genuine, heartfelt empathy - not like all those other fuckers who crank it up to eleven for the uncomprehending sake of arsehole tokenism because their own cretinous arguments don't have enough of that already....

Not a popular vote winner in ROI tbh.

She obviously thinks it will be.

Doesn't really matter what she thinks, incumbent Michael D Higgins is 45 points ahead in poll.

Good.

A simple plea for the weeks leading up to November 11th.
Should you wish to wear a Poppy in sombre remembrance then fine.
Should you choose not to wear a poppy then also fine.
We do not need to know your reasons why on either count.
It matters not, whether you are a Postman, TV Newsreader, Teacher, Politician or famous Sportsperson. It’s a quiet personal choice, and should be left at that.
