edinabear 65 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 I think its quite clear that the Lowland League is building a bit of momentum now with promotion to League 2 and relegation to EofS/ SofS. I seem to remember when the idea was first raised that the SPFL stated that over 20 clubs had expressed an interest to join. Does anyone know if any Junior sides applied to join or were seriously considering it? Despite many of the Junior clubs fans seemingly against the idea I would think with every passing season we will see more and more Junior clubs expressing an interest. It will just take one to join then the rest will then follow and fundamentally this will be better for the game overall.

mrman2011 351 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 Junior clubs are happy being big fishes in small ponds, no ambition and no skill set to improve Junior cups should be cleared out of the Scottish Cup, mind you that will please fans of "Rosey Posey" who claim its a pointless cup

Although I do agree with one point in the OP - once one club makes a brave decision, the rest will follow suit.

VodkaTap 95 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 The juniors wont sort out the issue of promotion and relegation to and from the LL, so no club is gonna take that brave step. To my mind - it aint gonna happen.
cmontheloknow 3,777 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) VodkaTap has it in nutshell - no pathway to move out of the Lowland League has been established by SJFA so any big team making the jump would face a 3/4 division demotion on return. Putting that into context for SPFL Premier clubs - imagine departing for an 'Atlantic League' spot but being relegated out and coming back to Scottish football in the Lowland/Highland leagues. The SJFA heirarchy are a vindictive lot so any team making the jump faces a permanent divorce from the grade unless a fairer option is set in stone in the constitution. MacGafraidh 151 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 Basically what others have covered, in order for the SJFA to be a feeder league into the LL they would need to sort out where a demoted club would go. From what I understand there is an element who want to see it happen and some who don't, but it is about as easy as jumping the Forth getting the Juniors to cross over. I still think the key will be the North Juniors, merge them with the NCL to do HFL2 and the Southern Juniors may follow suit in a few decades.
LongTimeLurker 1,751 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 The HL seem intent on creating a non-licensed second tier rather than being the apex of a north pyramid, so even that appears unlikely.
