Should Strachan Go?

Now that I've had a chance to calm down, and had my 18th can of lager, I reckon it'd be best for Strachan to go. I'd hate to see him embroiled in a tortuous 'death by a thousand cuts' world cup campaign. He's had a good shot at improving us, but ultimately he's really only proven we're not good enough to get consistent results from playing possession football. Added to that, our 'strongest area of the team' (midfield) simply hasn't delivered enough to compensate for playing with just one, defensive forward.

Strachan should be offered a renewal. If he decides against it and wants to leave at the end of the contract, fair enough. But if he wants to stay, he should be allowed to. If we had someone clearly better waiting in the wings (which we absolutely don't) I'd be more for it, but the only reason we're here talking about being out rather than taking it to Sunday is a freakish win for Ireland against the World Champions. He almost did the job perfectly tonight, which would leave one (admittedly huge) blemish on his card. We have been put in a group which could see the World Champions finish in the playoff position, however unlikely. Remember us all saying how Germany would cuff everyone?

This is exactly the problem. Always keen to compare favourable results yet ignore the ones which dont sit so easily. Scotland aren't out because Germany took Ireland and Poland for mugs....they are out because of a dreadful attitude to basic preparation and focus on a job in hand. The current lot are seriously weak-willed and constantly on.the lookout for someone to shoulder the collective resonsibility. Three managers paid for this approach from still-serving players, many of whom have practically downed tools on their own supporters to get them sacked. The Polish equaliser was as laughable as it was predictable....and i'll say it again....footballing royalty like Lewandowski skimming across turf with an absolute fucking no-mark to.equalise against plankton like Scotland should be a lesson for those ungrateful p***ks.....but it won't be. 7 points lost by Germany isnt the travesty of justice the apologists want it to be....they just went to two proper teams who do their talking when it matters.

If Ireland could beat Germany then why couldn't we? Everyone else beat Georgia, why couldn't we? Because the management team are not capable of delivering.

No,he has to be given his cards, every campaign ends up with if we beat that lot,and they beat that one then we will rely on other teams doing us a favour. Get a life.

Get someone with a pair of balls that gets them believing in themselves. Strachan started off like that then slowly fell into a negative crevasse that bleeds through every sport we Scots play. The same thing happened last week in the rugby. A great chance to actually get some respect in world sport and we play the victim again.

Please don't do the Arsene 'but who else is there' Wenger card. We finished fourth out of six, the Euros were our best shot at a major tournament they really couldn't have made it easier and we screwed it up,only us.

Only us.

We say that because there isn't anyone. It's all very well beating your chest and demanding someone else comes in, but if there isn't anyone that would that then it's pretty hollow. Oh, but let's just trot out cliche and get someone with balls. That's the game. Problem solved.

Or is it that RoI's shitey hoofball style is simply more effective over the course of a group?

Perhaps we'd be best going back to the smith/McLeish approach. We've got a fair few strikers who could thrive from that approach. Not a pleasant prospect football-wise, but maybe we'd grind out more results that way?

Might be worth doing until we turn out a freak world class player like bale.

ETA: Cannigia must have knobbed a fair few burds in Dundee in 1999? Our saviour is out there!

Could be. But even if it is, they still have a strong chance to qualify now, and managed to get there in 2012 as well. All despite being a similar sized nation to us, and with a squad that's probably fairly similar ability wise.

He has to go, fourth place in that group is an embarrassment. The SFA need to look beyond their Largs clique for the next appointment.

Maybe they'll go all the way to Millport for this next appointment. Broaden their horizons. Make a day of it. Get some ice-creams. Get frustrated at the extreme difficulty of the crazy golf course.

Fourth is exactly where our seeding said we should be.

And Largs clique? That's one of the oldest Scottish football cliches and literally means nothing. In what sense is Strachan a part of any 'Largs clique'?

To not finish in the top 3 is disappointing, but we have clearly improved a lot as a team over this campaign and, given the obvious lack of a replacement, I would be very happy for him to stay on. I suspect he will walk though, which will no doubt please some of the slavering numpties on here and elsewhere.

Ive strongly disagreed with many of wgs selections during this campaign.....bitterly so.....but unless im missing something obvious we simply dont have a better managerial option that wants it n we can afford

Worse record than Berti.,Should go, but noone else to take over. Couldnt see the game plan in 1st half, we were a shambles. McGhee and McCall should GTF at lthe very least.

What's the point in getting rid?

Anyone who isn't a SFA puppet and blinkered so only sees the OF/Championship as a source for players (not squad members but the ones who actually get game time) won't get a job anyway.

We'll continue to plummet down the FIFA/UEFA rankings until we're about as relevant as Mozambique
