He's a cheating wee b*****d but Murray should have just used it as motivation to bite down on the gumshield as it were. Still a couple more chances to break back and get him telt.

Tsitsipas spent about 10 minutes in the toilet before the start of the 5th set.

As well as a Djokovic special of getting the trainer on.

Andy asking for the trainer at the end was class, wish he actually went through with it.

Ah, okay. I assume the consensus is gamesmanship rather than the shits, then 😆

Gamesmanship and or cheating if he's actually one the phone getting coaching during his extended breaks. 2 long toilet breaks, a medical timeout and changing racket when down points on his serve etc.

He was at the wind up and it worked.

Fantastic performance from Murray, some of the old magic in there and Tsitsipas was rattled at times. He needed to win it in four though, was never going to have the fitness to win the 5th.
‘Toilet break problems’ seems to be coming up more and more often. Maybe limit to one per match per player. Be a bit harsh to have to forfeit the match cos you’ve got the shits though.

It really emphasises the level that the likes of Medvedev, Tsitsipas and Zverev are at.  Tsitsipas has beaten Murray in five sets after absolutely drilling his serve in the last set.  Murray is 34 with a beaten and broken body, and yet with sharper match practice, he would have won that.

Not one of them is as good as Murray was at the same age, and even now a barely match fit Murray takes him to five sets, and Tsitsipas has to use elongated breaks to gain an advantage as Murray’s body will start to stiffen due to age.

Hats off to Murray, in two or three months that serve is going to be an absolute weapon.  It will be interesting to see if he will play the mixed just to get him matches.

It would certainly make the all England Clubs white rule interesting.   Sponsored by inco pads.

Murray is such a great competitor.  That fella last night wouldn't have lived with him when he was fit

Murray was excellent last night. Best performance he has had in a long time, serve was much better. 5th set was always going to be an uphill battle, had opportunities to break back but it wasn't to be this time. This is much more encouraging though

Said the same thing to a mate last night, the new breed are good but none of them are anywhere near the levels of the top pros from the last 20 years. One or two of them may break through but I don’t see where the next dominant player is. Makes you wonder how much Andy could have won if his body didn’t break down when it did, have to feel it would be him and Djokovic battling it out at almost every tournament.

I don’t think there will be a dominant player for a while. I can see it going back to how it was in the post Sampras pre Roger period when there was a brief burst of real diversity among the major winners.
In the five years between 1998 and 2003 guys like Safin, Hewitt, Roddick, Johansson, Rafter, Kafelnikov, Ivanisevic and Korda etc all picked up major titles. All decent players but none of them would be in any discussion about all time greats.
The current crop of mid 20 somethings like Tsitsipas, Kyrgios, Zverev, Medvedev etc all fall into a similar category and if/when Novak slows down it will be them winning the big ones. Will make it interesting in a different kind of way.

Since the computerised ATP rankings began in 1973 only two men, the last being in 1998, have become No. 1 without having won a Major. WTA is a higher figure with 7 players but they’ve all been between 2003 and 2017.

Once the Big 4 or at least Novak retire we might see majors spread out and the above more likely to happen. A combination of the younger guys not looking comfortable on every surface and the fact they (usually Zverev) get dragged in to 5 sets in the early rounds against some absolute jobbers gives the impression that the top 20 in 5 years could all easily beat each other.
