Stirling Albion v Montrose

Recommended Posts

Well it was quite an afternoon, first half the Albion were brutal and we only came to life after the sending off which I felt was a bit harsh but justice was done by the penalty save.

Great goal by Ross McMillian to secure the 3 points and our 1st home win of the season. Also for the first time in quite a while we kept a clean sheet overall not a bad afternoon. Roll on to Arbroath next week and 3 wins in a trot fingers crossed.

Very disappointing result from a game where we deserved at least a point. We were dominant in the first half, but oddly only had the one clear cut chance which Smith saved well at his near post from Fraser.

The turning point was the penalty at the beginning of the second half, Fraser was impeded by their right back when clear on goal, the Stirling player rightly ordered off. However Smith saved very well from the penalty and that was a real knock to us.

Stirling clearly felt the red card was unjst and they were galvanised in the last half hour. We lost a poor and soft goal when a lofted ball found their captain unmarked in our penalty box and he headed home past Salmon who had no chance. One of our centre halves was to blame for that, I am not sure which one.

After that we huffed and puffed but Stirling were more determined than us to hold on. Ultimately we failed to capitalise on our chances and failed to make their keeper work hard enough. We will play a lot worse than that this season and win. But the lack of away form- five straight defeats in league and cup- is becoming a slight concern.

That was how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. A penalty miss and a missed great chance not long after. Binos played better with 10 men and Mo just faded away as the second half rolled on. We had no idea how to capitalise against 10 men. It's still a lot better than last season and the effort is good but today was a reality check against frankly a poor Stirling side who credit to them stuck at it against the odds and were rewarded with a good goal - but where was the Mo defence?

On the penalty/sending off I thought it was a harsh sending off but by the letter of the law and all that. Don't agree justice was done by the penalty save though. The lad would have scored had he not been fouled and we would rather he had scored and the Binos lad had not been sent off. Always looked as if a single goal would settle it and it could have gone either way.

Wish they did a proper programme though. That £2.50 effort is too big to lug around all afternoon and won't fit in normal prog boxes - still, better than QP's E-Prog.

Think the montrose sub keeper was sandy wood, he was on the bench as a trialist last week aswell for the mo! Any of the montrose lads confirm he was the trialist against stirling?

I think it was ex Arbroath keeper Scott Morrison, could be wrong though.
