Renfrew FC Official Opening

Recommended Posts

On behalf of the committee at Renfrew Football Club I have to say a huge thanks to everyone who came out on Sunday afternoon to join us in celebrating the opening of our new stadium.

A beautiful sunny day brought out a crowd of around 400 who were welcomed by piper David, then entertained by local dance group Jazzle Dazzle who put on a brilliant performance. Iain Wilson and coaches from Renfrew FC youth teams organised the ever popular Beat the Goalie, whilst face painters Susan and Joanne from Cherry Faces kept the kids happy with Tommy McGrory, on PA, keeping the tunes coming.
We welcomed former players with the 1962 Scottish runners up, mixing with the 2001 Scottish winning side, which included the back room team of Mick, Billy, Matt and Ally.
We had a successful raffle (Donations from sponsors. Cottons. Almarks. JJ Barbers. Liam's Barbers. Swift Cleaning.)
and sold merchandise and commemorative programmes as the snack bar and bar did roaring trade.
Harry Lawrie, President of the Scottish Junior Football Association presented Renfrew FC president Alan Liddell with a plaque marking the occasion as sponsors and VIPs were treated to pre match hospitality to thank them for their support.
Just before 2pm, former Renfrew FC President John McIntyre officially opened the stadium when he kicked off the match between Renfrew and St.Mirren. Club Secretary Eleanor McNish presented John with an engraved tankard as a memento.
The game ended 5-0 to St.Mirren, but today was about marking the occasion and introducing the people of Renfrew to the new ground. Hopefully we can keep them coming back.

Thanks Again Everyone, it was a brilliant day....

Alan Liddell, President

Great to hear of this. My last visit to Renfrew was a shocker; the old place looked like a bomb had hit it. It was really sad to see the state of the place.

Dead chuffed for you all that you've managed to move on.
