RISE - The "Scottish Syriza"

RIC was made up of many different people including snp, green and even labour voters/members. Add to that the Sheridan tendency

Rise won't be able to draw on anything like the resource RIC were able to.

That said i would quite like them to maybe take a seat in Glasgow or WoS

Not in my experience in Glasgow. RiC and the SSP were the ones driving it, joining together was obvious.

The bit I quoted. None of your subsequent additional detail above alters this. Edited by strichener

The far Left in Scotland are really inextricably linked with the independence movement now. This has given them a boost in terms of it's allowed them to engage with people and campaign but I don't think it will do RISE, or any of the other groups on the Left, any good electorally. The analysis is that the change they want to see is only achievable when Scotland is independent and if you want that then the only party who can make it happen are the SNP.

Add to this the fact that Tommy Sheridan and the Hope Over Fear guys will probably have some sort of slate running and that the Labour Party might have a leader closer to the far Left than ever in their history then I think RISE will probably get squeezed out.

Also, this is history repeating itself. The SSP (and the Scottish Socialist Alliance, it's precursor) were formed to do much the same thing in the late 1990s. I don't think the conditions that saw them win six seats are going to be repeated again.

If you'd seen the Scottish Lib Dems of late you'd know it's more of a glacial drift than a scramble.

I don't think anyone's seen the Scottish Lib Dems of late.

Why are the conditions not going to be repeated now?

The SSP were on the rise before Sheridan fucked it up. 6 MSPs alongside 7 Greens (I think) and a lot of mainstream coverage. A great time for Holyrood.

Two of the SNPs flagship policies, free prescriptions and free school meals were brought to the table by the SSP.

RIC was a huge success and RISE comes off the back of that.

In my opinion this all bodes well.

The Tommy Sheridan Public Image Rehabilitation Project is only active in the central belt (frankly, it's only active in George fucking Square) and insofar as it's running a slate it's with the likes of Phil Boswell who will likely be representing the SNP in Coatbridge until he's 75. It's got very little support from the other parties and even the good Reverend (who loves a bit of putting women in their place) shies away from it.

Sheridan will run until the end of time, but like George Galloway he's been found out by far too many people now.

I'm all for a left alliance, unfortunately the SSP's capitulation to the news if the world against TS will make it nae impossible to have such an alliance.

I'm not sure how the 2 factions can ever have a reconciliation?

It's obviously in the establishments interest that this division is maintained at all costs. I assume both factions are infiltrated to the gills with MI5 or is it 6, always mix them buggers up?

Indy ref just like the anti poll tax before it was a great uniter but ultimately there was no over-all leadership that could carry the movement forward.

If RISE is to rise it needs to have a strong leadership & I can't see that happening soon.

I think the SNP have stolen their thunder tbh. By saying they are to the left of labour they seem to have picked up some of the disillusioned labour supporters who either stopped voting or voted for labour through gritted teeth.

They say they're to the left of Labour because they ARE to the left of Labour.

there was me thinking you'd mention a redistributive tax policy the SNP had implemented at holyrood. My mistake.

I must say, it's a novel approach for a Labour supporter to try the "redistributive policy" line.

That will win Scotland back for the seething mess that is Slab.
