killienick
I remember when I first read Ultimate X-men. I loved how brutal and dark it was. Nothing like the usual 'spandex' type comics you mention. Comics have evolved (in the same way computer games have I suppose). The kids reading them grew up and became writers. Those writers changed the way comics were supposed to be and as the writers matured so did their work. Great series. Didn't it get a bit Rangersy? Think Mark Miller was on of them and shoehorned them into the comic at some point.
tongue_tied_danny
I see that there's now a graphic novel adaptation of Sven Hassel's Wheels of Terror. Looks pretty good.
deldad7
I'm looking to expand my collection of graphic novels a fair bit, been pretty much solely collection DC New 52 stuff, some of Batman's one off ones like the Long Halloween and a wee bit of Marvel but I could do with something a bit different, suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Dee Man
Hey geeks, Are the old Commando comics worth any money? I was in a second hand store at the weekend which had a shitload of them, as well as a load of Buster comics, and would be happy to buy them for anyone that is interested and sell them onto you for a vastly inflated price. Thanks.

Which is my roundabout way of getting to saying look at what I just got: Used to love Marvel UKs Simon Furman comics, particularly Death's Head and Dragon Claws. I also can thank the regular back up strips in Transformers for my continued purchasing of Mike Mignola comics to this day after they ran Rocket Racoon, in fact at that stage I preferred it to Transformers and stopped buying it when the run finished.
killienick
I was off sick for a couple of days this week and looked out some 80s 2000ADs to read. That comic was the balls back then. The one off horror stories were tremendous.

killienick
Bump. For those who are interested, there is a nice 40th anniversary 2000AD Signed by Jock available for pre-order. milton75
Wee bump for this as this week, having only taken 30 years to do so, Marvel gave us another Death's head comic. So we're back on the topic started by the OP. Bought #1, obviously, and in fact managed to get hold of 3 of the covers. Annoyingly the 4th is proving difficult/expensive. But the comic itself is a treat, and they've also just announced a new DH collection too. Happy days.
tamthebam
Talking of comics I enjoyed reading Garth Ennis' "The Boys" and I now note its been made into a TV series on Amazon. I bet they've cut out all the gratuitous sex and general scatalogical stuff that Ennis tends to specialise in. At least they cast a "wid" as Starlight..
milton75
I've not started watching that yet, but I suspect it'll be fairly gratuitous. I'll be disappointed if I'm not disgusted at least once an episode.
Homer Thompson
Im looking for recommendations for getting the kids into comics. We've been to a few cons and they are into Marvel and DC movies and TV shows but I'd like to get them into the comics too. The problem is, there are just so many storylines etc that its hard to know where to start - or even if it really matters. I had a google and some site recommended the Flash Rebirth which seems like a good shout. I also came across the Dollar Comic range which are cheap reprints of some key issues which I though might also be a good place to start. Anyone any other recommendations?

Mark Connolly
A more serious answer would be the Batman Adventures series, which is based in the same universe as the Batman animated series. The added bonus of this is that you can also watch through that series, which is absolutely brilliant.
