Getting interesting in Greece, as Olympiacos win their 6th straight game and PAOK drop points (for only the 2nd time this season) away to AEK.

PAOK now 6 points clear, with the pair facing off in Thessaloniki next weekend. PAOK would be 8 points ahead, but they were one of the clubs starting this season with point deductions due to fan behaviour.

If PAOK avoid defeat, it's really their title to lose, and would end a 32-year run of the big three Athens clubs winning the title.

itd be nice to see the Athens teams not winning it for once

it would also be a nice lesson to the fans of greek clubs, given how some of their fans behave,if paok  lost it due to that deduction

YB continue what looks like a procession to their second title in a row. 2-0 home win to bottom side Xamax on Saturday, first game post winter break. Basel are second, 19 points behind. They skelped second bottom Grasshoppers 4-0 in their own midden.

Aarau's surge to the top league(Probably via the play offs) continued on Friday night with a 3-1 win at home to FC Wil. Currently sitting 5 points off second, but considering they lost 7 of their first 10 games and were 18 points off at one point, it's looking like they will justify their pre season hype and finish in the top 2. Servette look uncatchable at present, 9 clear of second placed Winterthur.

Kamza have been kicked out of the Albanian league (the strictest of liability) after their fans attacked the ref at the end of the draw with Laci. Albanian refs have now gone on strike, demanding that games are controlled by the police, rather than private security companies.

Maccabi Tel Aviv have won the championship title with 8 games to go.
They are 27 points ahead of the 2nd place.
Still unbeaten - 22 wins and 6 draws from 28 matches.
60 goals scored, just 12 conceded.
Quite an achievement for Vladimir Ivic in his first season as a coach in the league
On track to go undefeated domestically as they've won the league cup (Toto Cup Al) & are in the semis of the Israeli FA Cup (State Cup). Only defeat so far was getting beat 3-1 by Sarpsborg (losing 4-3 on aggregate) in Europa playoff round.

YB have won the Swiss League again. Basel set for second place after a largely hopeless season all in. At the other end of the table, Grasshoppers are all but relegated, barring a miracle. A lot of rumours circulating that it will finish them, either bankruptcy due to the drop in income, or through a merger with FC Zürich who are also struggling in the league(3rd bottom, just above the play off spot) and struggling to compete financially with YB, Basel, St Gallen and Luzern.

In the second division, Servette are all but promoted. 11 points clear with 18 left to play for. Behind them, Aarau sit 5 points behind Lausanne. The top 4 all have fixtures against each other remaining. Would be a huge surprise if Servette blow it, but second place and the play off is definitely still in the balance. At the bottom, Chiasso look like dropping into the regional leagues, having been shite since the turn of the year.

Are Grasshoppers and Zurich not two of the best supported and most historically successful clubs in Switzerland (along with Basel and YB)? Seems mental to think they could end up merging.

Anderlecht are in hot water with the Belgian police over suspicions of fraud and money laundering
Second tier feeling left out has an ongoing match fixing scandal

Belgian FA demands 12 point deduction for KV Mechlen, deny them promotion plus punt them down the divisions. 6 point deduction demand for Waasland-Beveren. Suspensions of up to 10 years for 13 involved individuals.

Interesting story with a familiar feel to it. How's Zurich for jute, jam and journalism?

Grasshoppers have largely been fucked since selling their old ground and moving into the Letzigrund with FCZ. A large part of their support have boycotted the ground since, and it’s not unheard of for them to take more to away games than they get at home. FCZ have been horrendously mismanaged also, and both are running significant losses year on year. The city of Zürich are due to have another vote on building a football specific stadium for the teams, as the Letzigrund really isn’t popular with anyone as a football venue, but it’s again looking likely that the public will reject it. Combining the teams and getting all the major Zürich companies involved in sponsoring a “Zürich Utd” is a suggestion that keeps resurfacing, and I’d say it’s far more realistic an outcome here than it would be in Dundee or Edinburgh. They would instantly lose most of the 10k or so hardcore that both teams attract at home between them now, but long term the Swiss are far more open to the “logical solution”.

Zürich is more definitely more “banks, bribery and brothels”.
