coco8
Newmains 3 Lesmahagow 4 was a decent game to watch with plenty of goals. A good run out for both teams
The Old Northerner
Yoker 2 2 Haddington My visit was cut short after 20 mins as our starting 'keeper sustained a bad gash to the eye and I was in the escort party to the Southern General (all fine though). Friendly bunch of guys running the show at Holm Park, shame I couldn't spend more time there.

The'FORD
Blair park apparently...Only because all Whitletts pre seasons are away from home due to work being carried out on the stand at Dam Park. Hurlford scorers today were Kean (5) and Thompson (trialist). I don't know the Whitletts scorers.
superpollok
Vale of Clyde 0-2 Pollok Another good exercise for our boys after playing last night too. When a ref comes in before a game and says he has to rule out common sense cause a supervisor is watching him that's when you know the games fucked. He showed 'common sense' when he let big Gavin Ross off with a two footed challenge on Sweeney. A straight red if it wasn't a friendly - which is what he came and told your coach and asked him to sort it or he would have no choice but to. He also let your big number 16 away with plenty on Mackenzie. So don't think you can really complain about the ref. From a Pollok point of view a decent game and the new players all looked good additions.

I don't disagree but wasn't all one way ie wee Tam Hanlon one second half and McKenzie on me when no chance of getting the ball. My comment about common sense is what he said to us in the dressing room. But it was the clear things for BOTH teams he was getting wrong that annoyed me ie giving corners and throw ins when nobody else was near it. He seemed lost and flustered under the pressure of being watched

Agreed to a certain extent mate but football players are notorious cheats whether it's stealing an inch , taking a corner a millimetre outwith the D , stealing yards at throw ins etc. What happens if a ref is lax because it's only a friendly , players pick up on the referees weaknesses/ leniency / it's only a friendly and a player eventually gets a broken leg due to the referees leniency ???? Believe me it can happen and the referees would get pelters for setting a precedent of guys going through people and broken legs happening while everything before hand went unpunished because it's only a friendly . COTM totally understand and agree with what you say mate. What I'm trying to say is why does he have to come and say he'll need to change the way he would normally ref the game due to being watched for me that ain't fair on him and I believe it affected him making silly calls

And it's not for friendlies only ; it's every single game where refs can't smile/ laugh / shrug anything off rather than having to impress the guy who is monitoring their every move while killing their common sense. My only gripe with friendly games / competitive games being subject to referees leniency is that I dont expect our players to hold back in friendlies at £6 per time x 3 times per week ( QP last Tuesday £6 , £6 today against Linlithgow, £6 on Tuesday against Maybole) as £18 is a fair bit of cash for a week of friendlies for me. If it's real prices then lets make it real ref decisions as well . COTM

COTM Don't see the point in playing fellow junior clubs in friendlies and charging full price...you have the Ardagh kick about cup for that. Better playing a good juvvie team, couple of quid and the chance to find young talent. Ladeside only took a fiver for the tourney today.

And for all the ref discussion since my last post - despite whatever the ref said in the dressing room - he did show common sense - there is a difference between common sense and just getting things like corners and throws wrong

Good price at Kilbirnie as its a fiver for the day for two games.
