Busta Nut
To go back wee bit, Rangers dying was both the best and worst thing to happen to Scottish fitba in the last (just over) 10 years. Their fans got even more horrible and self righteous, something that has stuck and doesn't seem like it will simmer down.
kingjoey
Headline for today's Gossip page on the BBC Scotland football website; "UEFA Urged Not To Punish Ibrox Anthem". Who's urging UEFA, Nicola Sturgeon, King Charles, Neil Doncaster, Ange Postecoglou...no, it's Rangers legend Ally McCoist.

Looks like UEFA listened to Ally.

craigkillie
They were forced to change their name or potentially face legal action were they not?No. There was no threat of legal action, this was merely the pretext for a change their owner wanted to make. In theory there could have been a legal dispute in the future, but the prospects of that seemed slim.

You are correct that no legal action was pending, but Edinburgh City FC were advised by their lawyers that the safest route was to change their name, and this had been the case for some time now.
craigkillie
Yes, the lawyers that their owner was paying to tell them that. It is clear that legal action was possible, but there was nothing at all to suggest it was imminent or even being considered.

No. That was a lie. They have apparently been planning a name change for years. The Edinburgh City Social Club haven't got two beans to rub together to engage in any legal action anyway. A former Chairman of the Football Club who is also a former Board member of the Social Club offered to intercede in any dispute and was ignored by the Football Club. Don't believe everything you read in the papers.

Edinburgh City for me is just a better name as well? 🫤 As for their ground setup though

Cheap drink, cheap snooker (only payed for the lights) and decent bandit machines

Some of the money was spunked on the Loch Inn....

craigkillie
There's an actual Edinburgh City fan on the thread agreeing with my take on events, but maybe these mystical lawyers are the ones that know best.
Hoose Rice
Wasn't it just a case of them changing their name now they have moved a league up and don't want to get as far as the championship then have to be forced into changing name at a later date? I assumed they just wanted to get it out the way and over and done with.

Mystical lawyers? Kilmarnock fan alleging an FC Edinburgh conspiracy, Aberdeen fan backing up mystical lawyers theory. Strange.

No, it's a case of a bunch of Johnny come latelys pissing all over fans who have built up the club over 25 plus years in pursuit of a fast buck Or Scottish football basically Anyway back to bad journalism..
