Pasting the text so as not to give it any more clicks. Hugh Keevins in the Daily Record:

But now we’re contemplating the possibility of Celtic or Rangers playing lower league opposition in what would be the equivalent of a public flogging. The cynics used to say cup draws were made with hot balls and cold balls being secreted in a bag so that favourable pairings could be made for the betterment of the competition.

All a load of nonsense, of course. But if fate just happened to keep Celtic and Rangers apart until the cup final it would be no bad thing in the interests of having of a spectacle worthy of the name.

What a fucking c**t.

Haha GIRFUY Keevins.

Personally wouldn't have bothered watching the final if it was between the erse cheeks, but will def be watching it now and cheering on the winner of Falkirk v ICT, yeah they'll be massive underdogs but fuckit, that's what the cup is all about, mon the diddy teams.

Wonder what prompted the photo choice

In fairness, it’s probably just a stock photo they have that one of their photographers took when he played us up here earlier in the season. Would save them having to pay for a picture of the actual incident yesterday.

It's like when Rangers began their "journey" up the leagues.

For some time afterwards if a lower league player was involved in any kind of story, the only photos ever used were from games they played against Rangers, as those were the only matches they deigned to send photographers to.

Petr Cech: No ice hockey medal for ex-Chelsea & Arsenal keeper as Chelmsford lose cup final to Invicta - BBC Sport

An exercise in modern "journalism"

Petr Cech is a famous ex-footballer. Putting his name in a headline will make people click on what is otherwise un-newsworthy. Putting his name in the headline and getting people to click on it achieves the purpose of the webpage (we'll not call it an article) and the webpage does not need to contain any relevant information.

  • Is there anything about Cech's hockey career? No.
  • Is there anything about the team he plays for, the league he plays in, or their place in the sport in the rest of the country? No.
  • Is there anything in the related articles which suggests it has ever been covered by the BBC website before? No.
  • Does it mention that Cech didn't actually play in the game? Also no.

Just read Tom English’s article written after Scotland’s win against Cyprus and before the Spain game.  I reckon most of the Scotland fans on P&B could have done a better job of his analysis and of his predicted line up.

Tom English does football revisionism very well, for a rugby writer.
