The Terrible Journalism & Tom English Thread

Recommended Posts

I know this is a thread for bad journalism, but hats off to Jonathan Sutherland. In his report on Neil Lennon's call to have the old firm game played with fans, there's a lovely example of juxtaposition to puncture Lennon's claim that Celtic have been an exemplar in dealing with COVID.

Not really. Celtic and the SRU have been working with the Government since end of June on how best to get stadiums reopened. That dick Boli compromised not just Celtic but football in general. Lennon's 'claim' isnt a claim.

Folk are having a go here because it's Celtic/Lennon rather than because it's wrong. The only issue with what he said was making comparison to the NFL, because there is absolutely no sense in holding up the USA as a shining light. But the examples of France, Germany etc are entirely valid.

Jason Leitch shredded Lennon's reasoning on Off the Ball earlier.

If Jason Leitch told me it was Saturday today I'd expect to wake up tomorrow and have to go to work.

Not sure if I am missing a joke here, but it seems like you are suggesting Leitch provides false or misleading information.

Maybe so but he certainly knows better than Neil Lennon if it's ok to send fans back to stadiums.

Some people can't understand that folk like Leitch have to react and adapt to new data on a new virus, and think that doing so somehow means they don't actually know what they're talking about. They're still learning about it and getting new information on how it works and how it is transmitted. People seem to believe that noting what the data indicates at a certain time must mean that it is definitive, even though caveats are always given, and that the experts going back on what they said means they don't know what they're on about.

A garbage moron view of course.

He's implying that Leitch is a moronic gobshite.

Not sure why you are answering, but go on let's just unpack that. Gobshite is a slang term with a definition which is open to debate, we all know roughly what you are meaning, but it's a bit subjective so really I can't argue with your opinion. I disagree but you are entitled to think that. As for moron, that is quite clearly incorrect under any definition you wish to use.

However I am sure craigkillie will be along to answer for themselves rather than rely on a moronic gobshite to do so. :)

I presume that you obviously agree that he most certainly isn’t?

Given that Jason Leitch was all for an Old Firm game going ahead in the middle of March because it was one day before restrictions came in and they're all outside anyway - among countless other clownshoes interventions over the past six months - then I do in fact regard him as a moron. And he is undoubtedly a gobshite as his residency slot on Off the Ball underlines.

One person talks eloquently and knowledgeably about a subject that a second person knows little about. Second person calls first person a moron and a gobshite. Yep, sounds reasonable.

Yet another subject where VT is hoisted with his own petard. Screaming blue murder about Uni qualifications and how they must be respected one minute, decrying as a moron someone who not only is qualified, but has made it to a lofty position of public service the next.

We clearly have different opinions on what makes an eloquent speaker but his series of idiotic statements and subsequent flip-flops is a matter of public record. As is the outcome of Scotland having one of the worst death rates and economic slumps of any highly developed country under the remit of this 'knowledgeable' National Clinical Director.

JL: People won't be punted inside to shield for months on end: wrong, the government did in fact do so.

JL: Schools and colleges don't make much difference so shouldn't be closed: wrong, they do and so they were closed, cancelling the final exams for the first time in the history of the Scottish education system.

JL: Shutting the borders won't make any difference: wrong, closing borders is now a strategy used by every credible government.
