The Terrible Journalism & Tom English Thread

Recommended Posts

Seen a press conference on Twitter with St mirrens new signing Junior Morias. He mentions that he is friends with Aribo and Kamara of Rangers and from that point on every question is either about Rangers or Joe Aribo. At one point the player gets confused as to who the journalists are talking about when one asks about the negative comments received when Aribo moved to Scotland. It was quite astonishing to watch, over half the time was spent talking about Rangers.

This is not specifically a Rangers thing. When Branescu did his press conference basically every question was about Juventus - he got asked about Conte, Buffon and Ronaldo about 20 times.

I can believe it. Did they ask if Ronaldo or Buffon had an opinion on the Old Firm game?

Its like the Scottish journalists are angling for a pat on the head, making themselves feel like they are big time by talking about Rangers/Juventus/Ronaldo in their press conferences, but only making them look so amateur with their constant need for approval from bigger nations/famous players.

I seen an interview a few weeks ago with a Sun/Record journalist talking to Charlie Nicholas and the first 3 questions were a variation of ‘what do the English think of our league’ and asking if Steven Gerrard has got English fans interested in Scottish football. Apart from journalists, does any genuine fan of a Scottish team give one flying f**k what England thinks of our league. I couldn’t care less what other people think of our game, because on the whole no one outside Scotland really cares. I will always watch whatever Scottish game is on TV over any English game, because Scottish football is my biggest interest. I’m sure it works the same way for English fans. I don’t get the need for English people to tell us what our game is like when the only game they watch is the Old Firm.

At least the BBC is aware there are Scottish Cup games on Saturday even if they don't know what round it is and TBC will be busy playing 3 games.

They'll be dancing in the streets of TBC if they win any of them.

"For years it has gone on and there's a fine, but the only way to deal with it is definitely harsh [measures] like stadium closures. That's the only way it will get through."

Kilmarnock and Scotland striker Naismith believes the absence of away supporters will "100% affect the team" in Rangers' next European away game. That will be in the Europa League group phase next month if Steven Gerrard's side get past Legia Warsaw.

BBC Scotland subtly breaking the news that Kilmarnock have solved their striker shortage and re-signed Naismith.

"But in 2012, disaster struck for the Glasgow club as it entered liquidation and fell down the leagues into the Scottish third division - the lowest league in Scotland. "

"Fans stuck by their side though and, in 2016, the Glasgow-based club were finally promoted back to the Scottish Premiership. "

Hmm.... did they, aye?

Here’s the original text which the Ministry of Truth Dept. at BBC Scotland decided to alter :-

“And in Scotland, Rangers went into administration and liquidation in 2012 with the club's assets being bought by a separate company - Sevco Scotland Ltd - which changed its name to The Rangers Football Club Limited.

The team plays in the Scottish Premiership but even today some fans consider the old Rangers FC to be gone forever.”

Far be it for me to defend the Record, but I think that's probably more an SNS issue.

AFAIK (and I'm happy to be corrected) the images come with captions already attached.

Obviously someone should check the captions, but they've probably just searched SNS for Jimmy Nicholl and not bothered checking the caption on it

looks like a Record f**k up unless someone at SNS has changed the caption.

I know it's Newsround and aimed at kids, but my God that's simplistic and complete bollocks. BBC really does tie itself in knots over this, how can a liquidated company do anything.

That's far more accurate, guaranteed that won't have been  written by anyone in BBC Scotland. Too scared to write the truth.
