Some journalists/pundits have made a career out of antagonising Rangers/Celtic fans to increase the ratings. Hugh Keevins for example has listeners lining up to call into Superscoreboard and the ratings are probably at their highest when he's on the show. In Jim Spence's case, there's mostly apathy from Scottish football fans. Maybe he's leaving because there's been a gradual decline in listeners and he knows bosses are thinking of replacements such as Jim Delahunt?... Maybe he expected more backing from bosses when he made the comments about Rangers and wasn't happy?....
