Remember the time those fine upstanding posters No8 and Tedi took great delight in drunkenly verbally abusing the man as he jogged past a pub that they has infested?

You are not going to last in Scottish football as a national media personality, if you unduly upset either half of the Old Firm, because rightly or wrongly appealing to the Old Firm armchair fan is what drives the ratings. His mistake was to play to only one third of the gallery in potential listener terms.

This suggests that he's being dispensed with by the Beeb but that doesn't sound like the case at all.

I disagree.

Some journalists/pundits have made a career out of antagonising Rangers/Celtic fans to increase the ratings. Hugh Keevins for example has listeners lining up to call into Superscoreboard and the ratings are probably at their highest when he's on the show.

In Jim Spence's case, there's mostly apathy from Scottish football fans. Maybe he's leaving because there's been a gradual decline in listeners and he knows bosses are thinking of replacements such as Jim Delahunt?...

Maybe he expected more backing from bosses when he made the comments about Rangers and wasn't happy?....

Maybe he was angry at the part his employers played in the Scottish independence campaign?.......................................

The BBC is not a ratings chaser. That is one reason it exists. Using ratings as an excuse to justify their over promotion of the bigot brothers is as feeble as their coverage.

After the scandal that caused Clyde to dump him, not a chance the Beeb will touch him.

Will miss Jim, anyone who can get the bigot brothers fans frothing at the mouth cant be all bad.
