You are quite right that Great Britain is the landmass

Britain is England and Wales. Hence the “Great” when referring to the whole of the Island. .

Silly.  GB is also the name of the new nation created by the AoU in 1707.
You missed out the Acts of Union 1800 which created the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland.

Another piece of shit brought about by the wealthy selling out ordinary people - in this case Catholic landowners who somehow thought they would get Catholic emancipation - they had to wait another 29 years for that.
