Pegging it to the Euro comes at a cost though and leaves us vulnerable to Soros style speculators.

Free floating currencies are the only way to go.

I’m fascinated by this.  How does that work?

And has no one learnt any lessons since 1992?

Please be specific about similar issues for pegged currencies since Black Wednesday.

I understand why folk have concerns about Scotland using a new currency, Sterling, or the Euro, but anybody who feels any emotion toward pieces of paper guaranteed by financial institutions needs to give themselves a good shake. If it wouldn't affect us economically, why give a toss if we used the Vietnamese Dong. Actually, handing over some Dongs for the shopping sounds braw; let's do that.

Also, the independence issue seems a great method for absolute nonentities to generate attention and money that they'd never have had a sniff of otherwise. Worth thinking about, if anyone's contemplating a career change.

This is the most frustrating point for me. I could see myself getting behind a leftier, more assertive internal opposition if they weren't all such insufferable blowhards. So you're left with the option of throwing your lot in with the nutters or finding yourself de facto allied with the party's right wingers like Andrew Wilson, Stewart McDonald et al. A shite state of affairs and no mistake.

Yup. Given independence is pretty much an inevitability at this point it would be good if some non-compromised lefty figures in the party stood up and made a name for themselves because the post-indy settlement will be largely settled from within the SNP.

You never know though we might end up with a Bolshevik insurgency led by the Stirling brocialists and Mhairi Black with Ross Greer, Andy Wightman and Patrick Harvie making up the left opposition.

I will be campaigning on the single issue of giving Andy Wightman a sword post independence.

Wightman should get to write the constitution of an independent Scotland by himself, then become President for life whether he wants it or not.

from experience Stewart McDonald isn't a right winger, he's just un attention seeker.

ive been in his company a few times and he literally cannot act like a normal person.  A constant politician always looking for approval.

i think i posted this before but i quite like the idea of going fully cashless with a new iScotland currency; afaik it was touted as an option for the £ as a way to prevent negative interest rates relatively recently. Had a quick google and found this, https://www.wired.co.uk/article/sweden-cashless-society - China and Sweden look like they're already heading that way too.

i wonder if there are issues with liberty using cashless entirely?  i don't know, just a question.  in other words, the allowance for some cash transactions without state knowledge is a good thing.

The only reason that it could be a “good thing” is if there is something to hide(ie tax evasion)

What about non sanctioned political activity in a country like Belarus ?  Or an independence campaign banned by Westminster ?

I'm not saying it's a killer blow but I can see some issues.
