The UK supreme court ruling today overuling Scots law has technically nullified the treaty of union.

The treaty of union was explicit that Scots law was to be sancrosanct in Scotland in perpetuity.

the Court of Session would "remain in all time coming within Scotland," and that Scots law would "remain in the same force as before."

They are now taking the pish......even Scottish unionists should be outraged.

Theresa May could kick a regionalist’s grandmother to death in front of them and they would say that anyone calling the police was just pursuing grievance.

Another nail in the coffin of the union. Independence for Scotland will be won by the contempt being shown to scotland by the UK government. Soft nos will surely be looking at what is unfolding and moving to yes.

41.
Section 28(1) of the Scotland Act confers on the Scottish Parliament the
power to make laws known as Acts of the Scottish Parliament, subject to section 29.
Section 28(7) provides:
“(7)
This section does not affect the po
wer of the Parliament
of the United Kingdom to make laws for Scotland.”
That provision makes it clear that, notwithstanding the conferral of legislative
authority on the Scottish Parliament, the UK Parliament remains sovereign, and its
legislative power in
relation to Scotland is undiminished. It reflects the essence of
devolution: in contrast to a federal model, a devolved system preserves the powers
of the central legislature of the state in relation to all matters, whether devolved or
reserved.

The Scotland Act can be summed up as Westminster is still in charge of everything.

Do you think so? The vast majority of the public are politically disengaged and will know nothing about this. Any more than daft soundbites and it's too much like hard work.

This. I'm usually interested in this stuff but haven't bothered finding out what it means.

This is the 1st time a court has pointedly ruled that Scots law is no longer paramount in Scotland.

It pulls the rug from under one of the key founding principles of union.

C'mon unionists...don't be wee cringing britnats

This particular development might only be noticed by a few but it'd be hard not to notice the way the UK government are behaving towards Scotland. Keeping us as part of the union whilst undermining/ignoring/humiliating the Scottish government is neither healthy nor sustainable. Something's got to give.
