Go for it. If we can’t get enough support for independence from this absolute clusterfuck, then I’ll concede that I’ll never see it in my lifetime.

The Thatcher thing is a mischevious meme...but her actual quote was just as succinct:

t “[a]s a nation, they [the Scots] have an undoubted right to national self-determination; thus far they have exercised that right by joining and remaining in the Union. Should they determine on independence no English party or politician would stand in their way”.

A clear and accepted mandate has always been a majority of mp's. With our right to democratic determination through referendum being witheld,  its the only way.

For continuity, our EU transition would then commence prior to brexit.

I don’t accept a majority of MPs being a mandate under a discredited FPTP voting system.

Tried that

A majority of MSPs elected who support another Referendum would give legitimacy to such a Referendum IMO.  This assumes it is clearly set out in the Manifesto without caveats.

The Scottish Parliament is elected on PR so far more legitimate.

The SNP have made no meaningful attempt to hold another vote. Shifting the goalposts now will make the movement a laughing stock. We decided we needed a referendum victory to leave and that’s what we’ll need to fight for.

I agree.  Although an equally admirable response would be "in about twenty minutes", the way this morning is going.

I agree that a referendum victory would be an ideal scenario.

But that relies on Westminster allowing it.....and if they were to get round to allowing it, setting the timing and terms. F@ck that.

This is Westminsters doing. People realise that. We have tried the referendum route. The SNP were given the biggest democratic mandate imaginable for a referendum. They duly requested it and were fobbed off. That is not democracy. Time to up the ante unfortunately.

We're obviously in a time of uncertainty where anything can happen. But I firmly believe the First Minister will call indyref2 before Xmas or January at the very latest.

That could lead to it blowing up in her face. I believe that people will not want any more uncertainty during this brexit mess.
