If she's offering everyone a unicorn who farts rainbows and breathes fire, then Yes are going to absolutely skoosh it. It'll make Boab Mugabe's re-elections look like a close run thing.

That's UN member states buddy. You have completely missed Ayrs point

Can't see any member states that aren't countries.

Also can't really see many countries that aren't UN member states.

Therefore...

Out of interest before 1945 what supposedly constituted a country in the opinion of adherents of this particularly asinine and obtuse strand of unionism?  League of Nations membership?  What about before then?  Is it turtles all the way down?

ffs what a banal argument. Everyone, the world over recognises Scotland as a country and Scots as a distinct nationality. When we do decide to become a sovereign state, we will get our seat at the UN amongst the other sovereign states.

Will FUK retain its seat on the security council. That is the greater variable.

I think the last week or so will have increased the yes support a little. However, i think it's best to wait until the Brexit 'agreement' is finalised and it becomes apparent we've definitely be shafted financially. That's when a larger number the 'middle class', 35-55 yr old Remain voters will back yes

You mean do exactly word for word what the SNP have said they're going to do all along?  Wow that's revolutionary.

Mate you don't understand the words you're using.  States and countries are not the same thing.  Just Google the word Scotland see what it says.

Absolutely correct, to state otherwise is a feeble attempt to degrade Scotland and protect the so called Union.

Except that it's no more a country than Texas or Bavaria which aren't countries.

You're wrong.  10 minutes of reading about 1. Scotland, 2. Bavaria and 3.  Texas and the various Nations they are part of will tell you why you are wrong.

Can you please make this a key argument of the next No campaign? Vote no to remain like Texas or Bavaria, but with less power. Vote No to stop Scotland even being a country.

Your not the first to advance a variant of this. The circularity of this argument is illustrated below

Only real countries should be independent

but

Only UN members are real countries

but

Only independent countries are members of the UN

It boils down to only Independent countries should be independent

Your basically committing the same logical fallacy as saying “cannabis should be illegal because it’s linked to crime”

As an attempt at defining terms it’s not much use because it’s self referential.

As an argument against independence for anywhere it’s useless because as soon as an independent Scotland, California, Catalonia, Patagonia or Berwickshire is admitted to the UN your logic will instantly justify their independence after the event.

Disclaimer this s post should not be seen as endorsing or condemning the concept of an independent Scotland, California, Catalonia, Patagonia or Berwickshire or indeed legal cannabis

I’m simply pointing out that you’re being a muppet

We should voluntarily withdraw from fifa if we vote no, its cringey competing against countries when you reject the right to be one.

I think withdrawing from fifa is a bit extreme.  As a compromise we can just not take part in the World Cup Final competition.

Texas was a Republic until it joined the United States in 1845 becoming the 28th state, so presently you're right it's not a country.

Bavaria was a Kingdom but is now a federated state with Germany so you're right again.

But whether you like it or lump it Scotland is a Country within the United Kingdom framework at present and hopefully will free itself soon from that position.

The vast majority of posters on this thread see themselves as Scots living in their home Scotland.

You however prefer to be British living in your United Kingdom.

Try having a drink in an english pub and tell the english how proud you are to be British.

FECK OFF JOCK is the answer you'll get.

I truly wish you well in your wee world, enjoy it while you can because our day is coming.

I assume that you drink in Wetherspoons

Wetherspoons in Inverness is actually quite good. They serve excellent Aberdeen Angus steaks in there on Tuesday nights for around £7 a head including a pint.

In this area they are utter garbage. Here's a Trip Advisor review for one in Burnley :

Reviewed 16 September 2017 via mobile

On Thursday 14th September me and some friends went to Witherspoon's for a bite to eat and some drinks. The food and drink were reasonable priced and the service was efficient the thing that put us of our evening was we and some other members of the public saw some mice running around the pub where we was eating, when we called the bar staff over they saw the mice and said they,er not hurting anyone are they and that was that. Outside the pub there's a notice stating 4 out of 5 stars for food hygiene . ( what a joke ).
