Gordopolis
I think this is a bit of a myth. Plenty of our current squad made their debuts at a young age, and there haven't been many cases of excellent players being excluded for years and years. All of the following guys were in the last squad and were 23 or under when they made their debut: Craig Gordon (20) David Marshall (19) Christophe Berra (23) Alan Hutton (22) Andy Robertson (19) Charlie Adam (21) Barry Bannan (20) Scott Brown (20) Darren Fletcher (19) James Forrest (19) Shaun Maloney (22) James McArthur (23) James Morrison (22) Steven Fletcher (20) Leigh Griffiths (22) Steven Naismith (20) Interesting stats. I wonder then why we rarely get continuity of selection after these youngish debuts. Only fletcher out of that lot has made it past 50 caps. craigkillie
50 caps probably equates to roughly 8 years of regular international football. Not that many of our players are outstanding enough to hold a consistent first team place down for that long.

roverzJames
There's also been a large number of midfielders that play central as well: D. Fletcher Brown McArthur Adam Mulgrew Morrison Maloney (Can play there) Dorrans Bannan Plus a few others That's a lot of competition for what's usually just two CM roles which will force down the number of caps people get if there's chopping and changing
PrestersKTID
50 caps probably equates to roughly 8 years of regular international football. Not that many of our players are outstanding enough to hold a consistent first team place down for that long. Darren Fletcher, Brown, Gordon, McFadden, Maloney, Naismith and to an extent Steven Fletcher, Ferguson and Mcgregor have all had long layoffs in that time, injury or fall-outs, otherwise they would have significantly higher cap totals. DF would be close to 80/90 caps anyway. Unfortunately that list of players happens to have a lot of our best talents in it.
1320Lichtie
Also if we qualified players would have quite a few more caps

1320Lichtie
3 more? Imagine we would play more pre tournament friendlies and of course if we were qualifying regularly like England do youre talking another 24-30 caps for the more important players at a minimum even if it was just the 3 games in the group stages.
