I see Bayern Munich are back in training.

Most clubs are, but is all done in small groups of 2 to max 4 people with plenty of distancing in order to not fall foul of the current regulations, and also with the full squad spread out over 4 or 5 different locations.

A case of wait & see how the next couple of weeks develop, but the DFL seem quite prepared to go down the closed-doors route in order to get the season done & dusted asap.

  • 3 weeks later...

Was a DFL video-conference this afternoon involving all 36 clubs in Bundesliga 1 & 2. Intention is still to go for closed-door games, with 9th May as proposed restart date.

Various details given regarding number of people within certain areas in and around stadiums as well as guidelines proposed for away teams having to stay overnight in hotels.

Discussions also been held with 5 accredited laboratories (with free testing capacity) to ensure regular testing of all participants.

Outcome of next Thursdays meeting between Angela Merkel and the presidents of the various Bundesländer will be deciding factor as to whether a green light is given.

Was announced at the Weekend that 3 FC. Köln players had tested positive for Coronavirus, a subsequent retest of all 3 gave however negative results.

As part of their plan in getting closed doors games up and running, the DFL have initiated a mass scale testing Programme. 1724 Tests have been carried out in the last couple of days, with the results showing 10 players between the top 2 divisions have given positive results. What specific clubs are affected has not been released and the DFL sent Clubs a strongly worded E-Mail to all clubs advising them not to disclose anything and that all communication would be handled centrally by them.

Wednesday is the next scheduled meeting between Angela Merkel and the presidents of the individual Bundesländer. All a case of wait and see what gets decided regarding restarting.

In one piece of news, Salomon Kalou has been suspended for being an idiot. Filmed himself and various team mates breaking distancing rules.

In another piece of news, ex-Schalke youth player, Hiannick Kamba, who four years ago was pronounced dead in a car accident in Congo, has been found alive and well working for an energy firm in Gelsenkirchen.

It’s really pissed me off that the only takeaway from this seems to be that Kalou’s an idiot. Yes he’s an idiot but his video shows several players and staff at the club not giving a shiny shite about social distancing by all shaking hands, and even a doctor carrying out a test on someone whilst wearing next to no PPE.

Hertha will probably get away with this by deflecting everything onto Kalou, but the focus should be entirely on the club for not enforcing any of the rules anywhere near strongly enough. Who knows how many other clubs are doing the same as well.

OGreen light given today by the politicians to allow the top two divisions to recommence the season behind closed doors. As to when, has still to be decided by the DFL. Likeliest date would be the weekend after next, but a couple of clubs have complained that that would be insufficient time to get players back to a good enough level of match fitness.

An upside of restarting 2 weekends after next, would be that much more information about the consequences of coming out of lockdown would be available.

Next discussion point is the politicians looking for Sky to make their „Konferenz“ coverage (jump around the grounds like Open all Mics, but with pictures) available on free-to-air TV.

Announced now, that the weekend after next will be the restart date. Friday with presumably Düsseldorf against Paderborn. Two most interesting games on the Saturday will be Schalke- Dortmund and Union - Munich.

Two Dynamo Dresden players have tested positive for COVID19. The entire squad has now gone into two week isolation and will miss the restart of Bundesliga 2.

Usually here in Canada Bundesliga  games are shown on Sportsnet World, a premium channel which I don't have. Though I could watch the occasional game when the NBC Buffalo channel would show them, now it seems Sportsnet have decided to be good c***s and show the games on their regular channels that I do have. After making do with the Nicaragua league for the past month or so, I can not wait!
