It wasn't the top league you won though. Winning the West still ranks higher than the 2nd tier in my opinion.

No doubt Troon have done very well in recent seasons and the management team are doing a great job but the statement is trying to put too much spin on something which doesn't need it IMO

I realise teams exaggerate press releases but that statement is garbage. Winning the Ayrshire Cup and reaching the WOS Final is deemed the best season in the clubs history.

Have they forgotton the season they actually won the WOS beating Arthurlie in the Final (possibly 2005 season).

It's not garbage at all, it was an amazing season to be a Troon fan!

We went into it with outside expectations of being heavily involved in a relegation fight, and instead we went on a long unbeaten run which saw us win the league, win the Ayrshire Cup against the Scottish Cup winners, get to the final of the West of Scotland Cup only to be beaten by a Talbot side which was widely acknowledged to be the best in the country. Played some amazing football, won some amazing games & statistically it's the best season we've ever had.

Of course we haven't forgotten the season we won the West of Scotland Cup (it was indeed season 2004/05) and we're even planning on some kind of celebration to mark the 10 year anniversary soon, but that season also witnessed a relegation from the top flight, so 2013/14 is surely ahead of it.

But as Napoleon said, football is all about opinions. And this forum, if not the game as a whole, might not exist without that!

Know a lot of lads who also played under Neil at Ayr . All said he was a top coach and guy . How Ayr let him just walk away is a mystery . Too much of a threat like some of the others .

Never met anybody who has ever said a bad word about Neil, an absolute gentleman & a phenomenal player in his time at Ayr as well, let's not forget.

The work he did with our Under-19 team in the last 2 seasons is evident by the number of that squad who are now playing Junior football, 3 of the best with us now & many more besides them. He's made a real mark on our first team already in only a month and a half so far, part of the reason why we're so excited about the coming season!

A good win last night in a tough encounter with Glenafton. Dale Moore on the left and Jordan Muir on the right gave us good width and they gave the Glens fullbacks a torrid time all night. As the game went on Adam Forsyth started getting the better of big McChesney turning him regularly and he pounced on a good cross from Jordan to convert. The midfield area was a battle ground with very little time to play the ball but if anything I think we shaded that area, At the back, Deano and Gavin gave their usual stalwart performances in the heart of defence. The game was always going to come down to the odd goal in what was a very tight contest and it came from one of Deano's special free kicks, again! It could have been different if Glens McGuffie had taken his chance when he broke through on the left only to screw his shot wide of the right hand post. On to the semi final against the Buffs next Wednesday.

First game Ive made this season and in thought we looked good. Wasnt sure what to expect after Gordon Burns took over from Jim kirkwood but we looked just as good as we did last season if not better. Didnt see as many of the new players as i wanted to but Spence looks class. Shirkie did well in flashes but thats maybe just learning the grade. Really excited to see more in action next week at the semi.

Shirkie has improved game by game. Starting to look the part. Linked up well with Adam and the two wingers very well last night.

Hard fouht win against the Glens but wee played some good football and deserved the win imo.

Delighted to announce that this seasons' top scorer Adam Forsyth has signed a contract extension with the club, to keep him at Portland til 2018 at the earliest.

We have also signed up another of last seasons Under-19 squad, Ben Wilson. Two great pieces of business for the future!

A 3-year deal for a junior player is not a regular occurance.

He's not a regular player Glensmad!

Cracking player & cracking lad, with plenty of potential to improve.

That's even more surprising then, a 3-year deal for a player who isn't a regular in the team ? Good deal for the lad.

Adam has more than earned his new contract. When we signed him late last year we needed a spark in the team as we were struggling up front. He has provided that right from his first 10 minute substitute appearance. He has forced his way to first pick upfront with his energy, attitude and goals.

Ben looked good in pre season. Congratulations to both
