Yet another US shooting

I mean, I would suggest that it is not just US cops that, on the whole, don't give a f**k about you. No one should really be surprised.

I agree to some extent but don't feel like this is some acab argument.

Perhaps it's just due to training but there have been heroic interventions in the past few years when UK police have died in an attempt to protect the public. Keith Palmer being a good example.

I saw some left wing US commentator analysing the stats for how many US officers die and it's such a tiny amount that it seems absurd how much they protect their officers from danger when it comes to protecting the public from the same danger.

Could attend shouts in corporate sponsored donut squad cars.

I like that one idea. The right wing are terrified of anything which sounds even a bit socialisty so let’s have the polis apply for grants and sponsorship to fund their activities.

Or as in this case, lack of them.

In general I don’t blame the cops in the US for not going in immediately, with the weapons they have now it’s pretty much a suicide mission and no job should expect people to do that.

This point alone is interesting because it sort of neccesitates that the "aRm tHe tEaChErs" argument is clearly the bullshit we all know it to be, so it will be intersting to see the crossover from that squad and defending the Police here.

If armed, trained people whose job it is to respond deem it too dangerous, then lets just draw a line under the fucking ludicrous "good guys with guns" bullshit.

Yes the average nutcase shooter has so much firepower the police aren't safe.  But let's allow anyone to buy them.

The cops not responding properly is confusing me.

I here that schools and workplaces have drills for this kind of scenario.

Then why don't the police have training for this kind of scenario. Surely standing outside for an hour (holding back parents) waiting on a SWAT squad to arrive isn't in the hand book.

ETA Sorry, for the above, all has been revealed

 Fucking hell.

As you say, the “arm the teachers” argument is clearly bullshit as is the “good guys with guns idea”.

I remember talking years ago to someone who had been a trained marksman and he was saying that it was really hard even for trained people to get a shot to properly hit the target over distance - nothing like you see on tv where they aim for an arm and hit it etc. That people who aren’t trained or have regular practice with guns are more likely to get hurt themselves in trying.

Who comes out best in a firefight is going to be down to a massive amount of luck on who reacts first, who has the better equipment etc the idea that anyone can prevent a shooting simply by having a gun is ludicrous.

The gun nuts will be using our janitorial system of giving the jannie a wee house on the school grounds as a way of stopping school weans from getting executed. It's truly frightening how far down the rabbit hole they have went in the states, maybe it's always been there but now just more emboldened as they can watch it on TV daily, hear the elected representatives spout it and meet like minded and more radical loonies online.

Except in this case apparently.

Armed female bystander kills man firing at party in West Virginia https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-61615236

Handily just in time for the NRA conference.  Fully expect her to be a keynote speaker.

"Dennis Butler, a 37-year-old with an extensive criminal history, was found dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, police say."

So unless this woman had a shotgun hidden in her handbag, it seems that someone else also shot him.

I’m maybe missing something here but it’s far more likely she shot him more than once.
