Yet another US shooting

Recommended Posts

Lest we forget about what a notorious American born newspaper columnist had to say about the UK gun laws enacted in the aftermath of Dunblane.

“The men - and they are virtually all men - come in two at a time. They have aluminium suitcases, safes, plastic bags and set expressions.

“Nanny is confiscating their toys. It is like one of those vast Indian programmes of compulsory vasectomy.

“It is as if the state had decided to round up all the model train sets or the stamp collections, an operation causing immense distress to thousands of innocent enthusiasts, and just about as pointless.

“Thanks to a sweeping ban on handguns introduced here in the wake of the Dunblane, Scotland, massacre of school children last year, law-abiding gun-owners are now handing over their weapons here at a rate of 50 to 60 a day.”

He went on: “An entire pastime will have been exterminated. Britain will be the only country in the world where it is forbidden to practise for an Olympic sport.

“The British taxpayers will have to cough up about one billion pounds in compensation; and still the shooters will receive 25 per cent less than the full value of any improvements to their weapons.”

He concluded: “It is no use the shooters protesting that this will do nothing about the myriad of illegal weapons, or legal shotguns; or that the existing law should have ensured that guns were taken away from Thomas Hamilton, the loner who killed 16 small children in a moment of madness at Dunblane last March.

“The owners of all the 160,000 handguns are penalized for the dementia of a couple of their number, and because no one, in the current climate, dare speak for them.”

Thank goodness self regarding blowhards like that are restricted to polemic and never get near positions of real influence

Too fucking depressing and tragic for words. The tragedy itself of course but that there just isn't the political will or ability to enact the enormous societal changes required here.

Without forgetting the viticms and their families, imagine how fucked up and awful a place an 18 year old must have been in to do this.

Just seen ted Cruz say ‘we know that legislation against guns doesn’t work to prevent this, we do know that what works is chasing down felons and criminals and those with mental health issues’.

Where do you start with this lunacy?

Biden doesn’t have enough about him to make any changes here unfortunately.

Even if he did - and he has said he is sick and tired of it, has told his people that this type of event only happens in the USA - his problem is that the Republicans and some Democrats simply wont change the elements of a constitution which was written in 1787.

As for Ted Cruz, he probably thinks the 400m guns in circulation in the USA is "not quite enough to keep us safe" - a complete fanny.

Her is how 2 republican law makers celebrate the season of goodwill to all men.

I think being armed has gone beyond hunting and protection from home invasion, The right wing fundamentalists are arming for a civil war.

Kid in the Packers hoodie is absolutely going to be a spree killer 😂

Sleepy Joe asks " Why does this keep on happening? "  Truly an inspired choice for president.

Deepest sympathy to those who have lost loved ones but you have to realise that this is a common occurrence in your country and no one acts on it.

How many are too many?

Basically until this happens to the children of gun lobbyists/pro-gun politicians themselves, nothing at all will be done.

A stat was just shown on GMB that a child is shot every hour in the US…….thats insane and makes those in charge absolutely culpable for this.

Isn't the NRA annual conference this week? Pretty sure I saw something about Trump attending as well. I'm sure it will be a respectful event after these latest atrocities.

Just heard on CNN Live that was “ at least the 30th shooting in a K-12 school this year “

WAKE UP AMERICA FFS !!!

They are awake they just believe the answer is more guns. Complete shit show of a country and unlikely to change significantly in the next 50 years. Background checks are a start but seems odd to conduct a background check on someone who wants a semi automatic rifle to either hunt or for self protection in both cases you would have to be absolutely mental to think that kind of fire power was necessary or proportional.
