Stephen Bebbington
The West Region delegates voted to keep it 3rd Saturday in july at recent AGM. The proposal was for 1st Sat but knocked back. Clubs will be fined if they take part friendlies any earlier, even if they are outside the region. The Almighty has spoken. Johnstone Burgh are playing today
dt17
What's the reason for the rule? I know for a fact most junior teams have friendlies before that date but just don't announce them. Seems a pointless rule?

Seems a pointless rule? To make sure players and officials get a proper break. Successful teams could be playing in the 3rd week of June and start training a few weeks later. Don't forget if teams are unhappy at this rule they can vote to scrap it but they don't so in the main they must agree with it. As a fan of a team who is generally playing right to the end I agree with it.

What difference does it make to teams who finish later? Some clubs are trying to move the game forward & encourage fans along but it strikes me that some clubs (& officials) are hell bent on holding the game back. Nobody gives a f*** about friendlies and attendances are absymal so I don't see how having a few weeks less of them is holding the game back. Then why limit when clubs can play the if no one cares. & it's not just in relation to the pre season start dates there have been numerous examples of the past few seasons. mick90
The late finish is partly due to `fixture waste` caused by not drawing and playing early cup rounds, especially in West Region, where they cause `log jam` in Spring. It is also keeping progress on the `pyramid` static, since participating leagues have to finish by mid-April. And it is obviously true ... most junior clubs (east and west) are just plain retards. The Scottish game badly needs to move on ... and it needs top juniors in best order to do that.

Vollyman
What's the punishment for playing before July 18th (in some seasons can be July 19th/20th/21st)? If it's just a 'token fine', is it maybe worth it? you must have a permit from the association this allows a referee to be allocated and your players insurance to be valid the cost for a permit is £10, playing without a permit can result in a heavy fine. Insurance is not valid in a game played without a permit and in the event of a player being seriously Injured could cost the club thousands of pounds
mick90
Mention `retards` ... and two pop up straight away ! Actually, an awful lot of people seem to have listened and we got an e-mail from SJFA on Friday, even though we never contacted them ! There are now 500 clubs in the SFA `quality mark` system, which arose directly from our `community club` campaign ... and junior clubs play in a system designed and campaigned for by us ... not by retards. We also campaigned for the right to play from July 1, which, of course, was approved at SJFA just two months ago ... but continues to be denied by `retard` clubs in east and west. If you retards just leave ... Scottish football will immediately brighten up ... guaranteed.

Brig O'Lea
Don't forget if teams are unhappy at this rule they can vote to scrap it but they don't so in the main they must agree with it. Correct. A vote was taken at this year's West Region AGM between starting on the first Saturday in July and keeping the status quo (third Saturday in July). A majority of member clubs voted to keep the status quo.
