Dunbar United are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Darren Gillon from Newtongrange Star, who joins the club on a 2 year contract.

Darren has a wealth of experience in both the Senior and Junior game and over the last 5 years has been an instrumental figure in Newtongrange Star's rise to the top of the Superleague. It is testament to the manager's vision for the club that Darren turned down opportunities from Superleague and Premier League clubs in favour of Dunbar United.

Manager Geoff Jones said: "Everyone at Dunbar United are delighted to see Darren join the club and look forward to watching him play an instrumental role in helping the club realise its ambitions over the coming seasons. His experience and professionalism will rub off on the whole squad. Above everything else he is a quality player and a really nice lad."

We are delighted to unveil striker Darren Handling as our latest signing for the 2015-2016 season.

Darren is a local lad who joins us from the successful Musselburgh Windsor youth setup, choosing Dunbar United over a number of other options including Junior and Lowland league clubs.

Manager Geoff Jones said: "We targeted Darren midway through last season. He trained with us a few times and scored a couple of goals as a trialist in a friendly, which we arranged for the sole purpose of having a look at him. He has phenomenal potential and ticks all the boxes in terms of his attitude and willingness to listen and learn. Darren also meets our policy of promoting and developing local youth talent. We hope this is the first of many years with Dunbar United."

Dunbar United are pleased to introduce our latest new recruit, defender Andy Common, who has joined us from Gala Fairydean Rovers on a permanent contract.

Andy spent 3 months on loan with the club at the end of last season and his physical presence and overall performances at the heart of the defence defied is relative inexperience and age. Andy was a youth player with Celtic, Hearts and Cowdenbeath so he has great pedigree and potential.

The manager commented: "When Andy first came in last season it took him a few weeks to settle in and pick up the pace of Junior football, but once he got his chance he grabbed it with both hands. I was delighted that he chose to sign permanently here rather than go back to Gala, which would have been the easy option for him in terms of location. As I expected he has already benefited greatly from a full preseason with us and I have extremely high hopes for him this season. He is a man mountain - we just need to find a way of making him a bit more nasty for 90 minutes on a Saturday!! If we can do that then he will be a hell of a player."

Continuing our week of signing announcements, we are delighted to welcome midfielder Steven Kean to Dunbar United for the 2015-2016 season.

Signed from Musselburgh Windsor 21's, Steven is a technically gifted player who can play in a variety of positions across the middle of the park, and will bring great energy and enthusiasm to the squad.

Geoff Jones said: "Dunbar United host the youth regional finals every May at New Countess Park, which as a manager is an obvious place to try and find a gem for the new season. Musselburgh played Leith in the 21's final and I was actually there to assess another player. However Steven stuck out on the day, and that performance was enough to convince me that he would add something different to our squad. He seemed to just glide about the park and his ball retention was very good. But he also has a wee trick and he wasn't afraid to try something different. If he's willing to learn and can add tactical awareness and discipline to his natural talent, then he will have a very bright future in the game. The early signs have been extremely encouraging and he is another player who we hope stays with the club for years to come."

Dunbar United's latest addition to the squad for the 2015/16 season is left back Reece Cochrane who joins us from Spartans.

Reece was a youth player with Dunfermilne and also had a brief spells with St Johnstone and Berwick Rangers before he joined Spartans academy and progressed to their East of Scotland side. He spent 3 months on loan with Dunbar United at the end of last season.

The manager said: "Reece is technically very good and always looks to play football - sometimes in areas which makes a manager old before his time!!! We brought Reece in for the last few months of last season to add some depth to our injury hit squad. His attitude was exemplary from day 1. He is a great trainer and gives 110% at every session and this is no different in games. Like big Andy (Common) he took a few weeks to adapt to the pace of the Junior game but he is benefiting from a full preseason with us. He has the heart of a lion and once we improve on his core strength and recovery time he will be a very complete player. I am delighted he chose to sign here permanently. Spartans loss is our gain."
