As above, our only centre backs are probably the worst two in the division, one of them is an injury prone 35 year old and the right back has no real first team experience at 21. Even if we were to sign another couple of defenders as well as Duffy he'll still get a game. Hynes now sent out on loan. https://gmfc.net/2020/09/11/young-ton-players-loan-deals/
Dunning1874
Yeah, going to the Lowland League at 21 doesn't suggest he'll be imminently stepping up to Championship football. Makes you wonder why he got a new contract when he was one of those being kept on in order to contribute to the first team rather than go out on loan to continue developing - if Hopkin wasn't confident these guys were up to first team football they shouldn't have been getting new contracts. Wylie being one of those to go on loan is a shame though. If he's not ready for this level of football then of course it's the right thing to do, but how much of the budget we've saved through putting players out on loan is wiped out by now needing to sign two goalkeepers rather than one?

There's pretty much no chance any of those clubs other than possibly BSC Glasgow is contributing anything in wages. You'll not have saved anything.
The Ghost of B A R P
Positive sign, though. I was beginning to get the fear that Hopkin was actually going to rely on some of the players just loaned out as part of his ‘first-team squad’; he’s now accepted that none of them are remotely good enough at this point in their development. We must be planning for four or five Incoming, loans or otherwise; not getting too carried away by what the standard of those signings will be, but they’ll at least be guys who have played professional football at some credible level.
vikingTON
Or they could be total jobbers from the dregs of a top flight youth setup instead (see Livingstone, A; Dykes, D).
The Ghost of B A R P
I think we might do a bit better than that... (translation: we had fkn better...). Keeper(s) will almost certainly be loan(s) and there are dozens of keepers floating around the English leagues not getting a game. Defenders might well be off the shelf the likes of Wallace Duffy is on... but I’ll be surprised if we’re subjected to the likes of van Scheik or Livingstone again. Where he pulls a credible goalscorer from is another matter altogether; odds on we’ll be doing without. On a good day, I imagine a solid, organised, hard-working base, with Nesbitt and Omar tearing this pish league up In front of it; on a bad day... well, we don’t have to think too far back to imagine how bad it might get...
Rudolph Hucker
None of us know who the club will sign and whether those signings will prove to be good, bad or indifferent, only time will tell. The only thing that can be relied on in this thread is that as soon as someone posts something that is even-handed and level-headed with just a little bit of cautious optimism then someone else will come in with a post that tries to drag it all down to swamp level again. You have to laugh, really. No, really. -
The Ghost of B A R P
I actually think VT’s — and anybody else’s — scepticism is justified, based on the club’s recent history... ... but I also think that Hopkin has a wee bit more ‘f**k this’ about him than recent managers and is therefore more likely to force his way through to something credible. We also need to remind ourselves that, at this point in time, we have precisely no goalkeepers and three defenders, one of whom will shortly be melted down for glue. It looks truly woeful. Maybe it’s blind faith, but I think it will look a lot better in three weeks.

Ludo*1
Not sure if you guys know, but if you want some cheering up, apparently Ramsbottom was a trialist for Falkirk tonight. -

vikingTON
Let's just call the season now that's wrapped up, with Covid cancelling the playoffs for another year. Just scrapping promotion/relegation altogether given the undesirables festering in the league below and Hearts' meltdown would also be an acceptable outcome.

Unfortunately unless the Queens board give AJ a few blank cheques to use pronto and get some players signed this prediction might not be far away... We can't run this season with a squad of only 10 senior players plus reserves... Only 3 weeks until the first competitive game.... Really hope for atleast a handful of decent signings during the next week.

Oooft, imagine the scenes if Hearts, Partick and Falkirk are all kept in their respective divisions another year! This website would break.

Rudolph Hucker
.... or, failing that, let him sign for Queens Park.......
The Ghost of B A R P
Morton swiftly putting my expectation that we'd sign players who've played at a credible level to the test... Aidan McAdams, GK, with what looks like 13 games in League 2... Remains to be seen whether he's signed as one of two keepers... or signed as a number one who'll play most weeks. Clench yer arse-cheeks, this could get ugly...
