The Greenock Morton Thread - It's Better Than Yours

Unless he was genuinely promised an increase in budget from the board, it’d have been extremely naive for Imrie to expect anything different from last season. He knew he had to be very smart with the money he had, two years for Cameron Blues is not that.

If Imrie has genuinely had the goalposts moved on him then that's not acceptable and the board need to be giving the manager a budget and sticking with it rather than reducing it after squad building has started. We've not got any evidence that's what's happened though.

For all that Lawton Green as an 18 year old goalkeeper who's never played a first team game is not going to be on a comparable wage to the first choice centre forward or playmaker we need, signing him does suggest that there is indeed still money there. It lends credence to the main issue here being that Imrie isn't happy with the amount of money left, rather than there literally being no money.

Running with the theory that Imrie has had the rug pulled from under him, we could reasonably deduce from what's been said in public that initially when the budget was set for the season it was smaller than last season, then at some point prior to the MCT EGM (7th June) the budget was then increased to be in line with last season.

If Imrie has since been told sorry, the budget is actually being reduced again now and you're stuck with what you've got, while in the meantime he'd spent up to the level of the now reduced again budget thinking he still had room for three or four more signings, then you'd assume this conversation would have been had a long time before that first game of the season for him to be giving that interview. Yet we only signed Jaze Kabia on the Thursday with that Falkirk game on the Saturday.

If Imrie was genuinely in a position where he knew he only had one signing left to go, then why on earth would he sign a winger when we already had Muirhead, Quitongo, Garrity, McGregor and McGrattan at the club? He might not think the latter three are good enough and/or ready while being forced to run with academy products he doesn't rate in his first team squad isn't a good situation for a manager either, but it's still the position we already had the most depth in.

Even if he thought the latter three aren't ready, we are also only ever one injury away from playing Hynes and King in defence, and King is a 17 year old central midfielder. Our only centre forward options as it stands are Muirhead, Quitongo and Easdale, who is certainly further from being a Championship player than any of the other academy products mentioned. We clearly needed a centre forward more than we needed another winger, while by freeing up Muirhead and Quitongo to play out wide it would have also increased our depth there.

So again, I think the most plausible explanation here is Imrie wants more money than he has left, not that he has none. Even if the budget has been reduced on him after he began making signings, then while that's a serious f**k up by the board that should see heads roll and it would be understandable for any manager to be furious, Imrie would still have been guilty of misusing the budget to build an imbalanced squad.

If it's that serious that the budget has been spent because it's been drastically reduced from last season then I believe the Board should be honest and show a level of transparency to the fans and state what the position is to help us understand what is going on.

As mentioned before, not looking for figures, but the budget has already been spoken about in a public domain, why not now?

What evidence is there to support any of this?

Given that you also wanted the board to issue a statement to address a Chick fucking Young piece like we were Sevco, I'd set the bar for this a wee bit higher than yourself.

There is no evidence that's the issue. It was in the public domain that the budget hasn't or isn't being cut from last season.

But since then we had a manager stating he needs cash from the Board to sign new players and the squad is far from complete.

This indicates to me there could very well be an issue with the Budget from the last update we had from Ritchie.

If this whole thing is a mountain out of a mole hil stemming from a Chick Young interview and signings will be forthcoming then fine.

If not and things are worse since the public update from Ritchie  then there is a real issue and we the fans/shareholders should be made aware of it

Well you would think as the fans are pouring money into the club via MCT they should give us an update as to if there is money left in the budget or no that is the squad at least until January.

Dougie has been moaning about budgets all summer.

In his interview on 30th May he said he would like more signings but it depends if the board give him any more money.

We signed Quitongo and Gillespie after that.

In his interview on 21st June he said more additions will depend on finances but he can't see anything else materialising.

We later signed Kabia.

He then had his wee interview with Chick Young moaning again.

We have since since a ringer keeper.

Whether the goalposts have shifted at any point or  not, Dougie will likely moan about budgets regardless.

The only update that we deserve is about the promised, imminent sponsorship announcement that was stated at the EGM and has since disappeared without trace.

We do not merit rolling updates on just how much of the budget the manager has spent, because that's not how any halfway credible football club works. Just because it's Imrie and not Gus gurning to the media doesn't change this.

Sorry mate I think you are wrong the vast core support are putting  a substantial amount into the playing budget monthly and have a right to know. As when  the manager comes out publicly moaning. I am not asking them to come out to tell us about the running of the club just this is the squad we ar running with not to much to ask.

When have any football club in recorded history advised their supporters how much playing budget they have left?  That's not a thing.

The St Mirren manager in the papers today.

Once again, seems to be a real misconception of what fan ownership means. There’s transparency, but only to a certain extent. Board members are elected to deal with things like budgets and make these decisions. Supporters having input at every stage does not happen in any successful model.

The Budget has already been talked about in the public domain. All I want to know is has anything changed since then?

Anyone know how the tickets work these days?

I've got a season card which I thought would just act as a fan card when it came to cup games. There's also a section on the ticket website for "your digital tickets" ... But the only option at checkout is to collect from the ticket office (which doesn't save queuing on match day).

Is it just the checkout option that's wrong or do we genuinely have the most pointless turnstiles/ticketing platform known to man?

The season cards roll over for league games but for some inexplicable reason separate paper tickets are still needed for cup games. So the checkout option is correct in practice but entirely moronic in principle.
