Alibi
Be interesting to see how Colville does. Looked a decent player in his time on the pitch. Colville/Jacobs/Lyon midfield maybe, but at least we have options there.
Colkitto
Looks like Welsh will fill in at RB. He may feel like his best position is CB, but so did Lamie and he adapted to the LB roll very well. Anyway, I believe Welsh has played at RB at Celtic so the position is not alien to him. To me the RB position is not a big deal at the moment. We're pretty well covered now and have a decent squad, although signing Kiltie would have just put the icing on the cake - pity. Over to you now Hoppy...….
Scosha
Spoken to a couple of people who have seen Welsh play and they said he's a standout at CB. He looked hopeless at RB last week.

He only just signed and played alongside players he didn't even know at a level he's never played.

We all know Ricki turned into a very decent centre back but he was pretty poor at LB, certainly when he first joined the club. Livi have stuck him out there a few times too and he's been found just as wanting (subbed at half time against Celtic). Not saying that Welsh will or won't be able to play at full back but Ricki isn't the finest example of it working to use. Welsh did look totally lost last week but there are other factors at play, like not having played, or maybe trained, with any of the players before.

vikingTON
OK, ‘I don’t rate’ McAlister playing there, but who does? Jacobs was signed to anchor the midfield, so sticking him out there is counter-productive (and he doesn’t have the legs for it, anyway); Salkeld is a ‘maybe’, but we haven’t seen enough of him and I doubt it’s his best position. All three _might_ do as an occasional fill in, to cover a suspension or injury; none of them should be expected to hold down that position on a regular basis. Tumilty, btw, is better at wing-back than full-back, another reason talk of going 3-5-2 doesn’t make much sense. Not the main reason, of course: that would be our lack of convincing options at centre-back (anybody remember when the ‘answer’ to Scotland having no decent options at centre-back was... play three of them?) Hopkin let Tumilty go in the expectation of replacing him and then failed to do so. He’s fucked it. He needs to make another signing to fix it (not a ‘jobber’, there just to fill a gap, but a first-choice right-back who’s, eh, better than Reghan Tumilty...). We’re paying money for a ‘McLean’, a ‘Blues’, and an ‘Orsi’; some or all of that would have been better spent on the above. Most managers don’t get their recruitment right at the first go, but that doesn’t mean his mistakes shouldn’t be acknowledged... only a fluffer would try that patter, right? OCD and out... They can play right wing back though - in the same way that Livingstone is already counted on as a left sided option even though he has barely if ever played at this level in that role and hasn’t even played for the club. Jacobs by contrast has played right wing back plenty of times at this level; McAlister did it at a level above. So on what factual basis do you oppose playing them there then? Meanwhile everyone’s bizarre, ‘natural right back’ hero Tumilty couldn’t even nail down a first team place in that dung Johansson‘s side last season, has never offered anything at all as a wing back and has now found his level playing for a crap team in the seaside leagues. It’s time that people got over their bizarre fixation with this marginally better, Dylan Dykes level dud. I’m not fully confident in any single one of our choices on the right side of defence but the same opinion applies to our options at centre and left back as well. The difference is that we’ve got several options to choose from on the right hand side and fewer everywhere else and there’s no reason to believe that at least one of them won’t perform to the required standard. The likes of McLean were signed in order to field a credible team in the League Cup - which we succeeded in and earned decent money from - and are now being hopefully moved onto the bench as cover where they belong. So that’s yet another false wage comparison you’re making to the cheap, dreamboat, ‘natural’ right back who exists only in your imagination during the last transfer window.

I don’t understand what more anyone could reasonably expect from a defender who joined the club literally a day before the game - never mind going into a defence as honking as that one was already.
TheScarf
We have two 17 year olds starting today and basically all the guys who are usually subs are starting too. So you’ll probably win.

Demented Zebra
Unfortunately Morton is destined for Championship and lower football. You guys must know it yourselves ha ha ha ! . We gave yozu hand me downs like flood lights. stand seats, paisley Express stand rusting away behind your main stand. We fill your buckets to stop going bust. Send you down a great centre back you will waste. It goes on and on but hey hoo we will always look after Morton to make sure you dont go bust if it was not for St Mirren FC your club would be long gone. Dont forget it. Sorry we cant accommodate your big day out anymore The Renfrewshire cup is the last thing St Mirren premiership club is thinking about. Take care of Jack Baird or we wont help you again . -

djchapsticks
I'm absolutely all for DZ hanging about Morton threads and being a nuisance to their fans. Makes a refreshing change from him hanging about St. Mirren threads and annoying the f**k out of us.
