The Greenock Morton Thread - It's Better Than Yours

Recommended Posts

Few things here.

McKinnon is clearly a sneaky wee shit. He’s buggered off at the first opportunity but he’s left for a team at the bottom of the table and in an absolute mess. Falkirk might be a bigger club but Morton is definitely the safer job at the moment.

Morton are still in a stronger position than Falkirk and will should be able to find a replacement easily enough. McKinnon was kind enough to build a decent squad with some good players for this league so provided they don’t give the job to someone like Gary Locke or Alex Rae they’ll still be up the right end of the table come the end of the season. Meanwhile McKinnon will have to work with the squad he has and unless he’s some sort of miracle worker Falkirk won’t improve much until January when changes to the squad can be made.

It’s not a complete and utter disaster for Morton but it’s pretty amusing watching it all unfold. Especially when we’re in a pretty cushty position at the moment.

Our sack a manager once a year policy now perhaps points towards that but every manager in today's game has the sack on their back if they dont perform

We have had a manager that has been pig headed, fell out with various players, placed numerous players out of position, tactics and formation were off the wall and making two subs at half time repeatedly is a sign to a blind man that he is clueless but I guess the league is settled now and no team has been top of the league after 3 games and been relegated ?

Raith were 2016/17 season, 3 wins top of the league

Id guess if we look as bad as we have and see progress, then an important window of transfer comes in and we then step up again, then his job is safe

If we plank to the bottom with no fight throughout, then obviously his job will be at risk like anyone's bar probably McCall and Goodwin's in this league

We may even click with new signings coming in and head upwards, I am sure a top play off place is still achievable after 3 games and no wins

Safer was maybe the wrong word then. Easier job maybe. Ready made squad and have started the season well.

Your fanbase are utterly unanimous on the opinion that your squad is diabolical, and avoiding relegation is the principle aim. You’ve bagged a manager who has experienced relative success and utter failure in equal measure, who simultaneously retains almost a full 24 hours to add to the squad. None of your babble fools anyone into thinking you’re any more confident now than you were previously.

Morton, on the other hand, were almost certainly not going to gain promotion this season, as with any other season, and the fanbase would probably accept a respectable upper/mid-table finish as we always do. Our squad looks strong and yours looks weak.

McKinnon, Morton and Falkirk aside, will have a tough time selling himself to anyone now unless he performs anything other than a miracle at Falkirk over the coming season; nothing he’s done previously suggests this being a likely outcome of today’s utter shitfest.

The statement calling McKinnon out as an absolute snake is welcome but it shouldn't deflect from our own failings here. One of the major points of an interview process is to weed out those who aren't committed to achieving the same goals in the same timeframe as the club - those who scrutinised McKinnon clearly failed to test whether he'd slither off at the first opportunity. It's a failure at the club and Hawke has overseen far too many of them as chief executive. While Crawford is in full seethe mode he should punt Iron Man for his role in this and many other debacles.

^I was thinking this as well.

You were described as impeccable when approaching Ayr for McCall. It would seem strange for Falkirk to then do the dirty on Morton.

However, the strength of the Morton statement suggests they have a case. Unless it's just bluster to keep the fans behind the club and push the blame on McKinnon and Falkirk rather than the Morton BOD.

All in all, what a bizarre day.

P*sh cover story for what was really happening behind the scenes.

Do you genuinely think anyone is going to believe you actually wanted Ian McCall?

Top bantering aside, I’m not clear why Falkirk fans are so delighted at the prospect of such an unprincipled charlatan heading their way.

we also asked jobby mccall, it seems like unprincipled charlatans are flavour of the month.

Our fan base are also unanimous on Hartley playing players out of position, formations being dire, changing at times two players at half time to fix the above and improving. If McKinnon can get a 2nd half performance out of us and add a player or two, who knows what can happen.

I'd rather fully judge players playing in a position they are comfortable with and formation, I will rule out Petra as right mid tho, the others have shown glimpses of hope and under a manager who will hopefully play players in position, decent formation and use encouragement as a tool instead of huffy moan fall out, time will tell where our league ambitions are and not 3 games under a manager who has lost the plot.

As for miracle, see teams escaping relegation with a few games to go and not 33

A good starter is us v ICT in the top league

Ray McKinnon confirming himself as the biggest arsehole in Scottish football (not that it needed confirming). A truly perfect fit for Falkirk IMO.

Beautifully put.  You need only look at the way the Falkirk fans have acted on here and the way their board have conducted themselves to realise they're a match made in heaven.  f**k Falkirk and f**k the snake.
