vikingTON
If the club is serious about its stated intent to challenge for promotion then Harkins wouldn't be anything other than a bit-part player in the team anyway; Queens might well get another decent year out of him at this level but I'm not at all fussed about this departure. If Dougie hadn't moved upstairs then you could have put your house on Chris Millar being headhunted as a replacement in the centre of the park this summer, regardless of who was in the dugout; it's less clear who will call the shots now though.

Not fussed is good. Anything to spare us from the toe-curling, cringeworthy eulogies you usually post about jobbers, Wake being the prime example. Not sure any bookie would let you stake a bedroom in yer maws house by the way so maybe just as well Dougie has moved up.

Well you'd certainly be the expert on bookmaking, having been horsed on the Morton forum for a wager that you subsequently shat out of paying. Shortly before getting banned for being an anti-Irish racist. And for being a delusional, rage-addled Walter Mitty of course.

How many red dotting sock puppet accounts do you need to qualify as a rage-addled Walter Mitty, Stephen/ Captain Rex/Uncle Joe/ KK/Dr Strange et al? Which also happens to be the only one acheived in your Walter Mitty existence that isn't a work of utter fiction. Hard lines.

The division won’t be as dreadful as this season obviously, but there won’t be a massive improvement.

It's a ten team league with four spots to enter the promotion equation - every team apart from Ayr and Dumbarton/Alloa will have the potential to get promoted. In terms of budget Morton are still likely to be beneath four or five teams in the division, but any combination of good management, good signings and good use of the loan market can overcome such relatively small margins. Particularly when Dundee United are sticking to the long-standing tradition of Dundee city clubs in making a continual arse of getting out of the division. There would have been very little chance of Duffy breaking the glass ceiling of his own ability combined with the club's resources, which is why getting the right manager in place is the most important task for the club right now.

That situation though, is entirely of their own making. Getting rid of Duffy might well have been the right decision but a new manager should have been quickly lined up to avoid this sort of thing from happening. It does suggest an appointment isn't close, as surely if a new boss was ready to go then he's have had a quiet word with anyone he wanted to keep and tell them not to sign up elsewhere? We have never came out and said its close though. The process was quite clear from the clubs point of view and of course it was our own making. Shortlist is probably done now and Interviews will start any day now, if not already. I never expected us to have a replacement lined up. There was still a chance of a play off position with 2/3 games to go so a new manager wouldn't have been thought about at that stage. Had Duffy made the playoffs, he would still be in a job! The decision to sack him was probably only made around the last week or so of the season.

Fucking hell. 5 penalties and a rebound from a penalty he had saved made up 6 of the 8 goals he scored. He scored one free kick and the other goal was a header from a corner. His penalties make it look like he had a better goalscoring season than he actually did. From open play he was a bit disappointing in that regard.

Yeah, not saying that's definitely a bad thing but does leave the club open to losing players that the new manager may have wanted to keep.
