Not quite correct - there is a budget for players and coaching staff - it depends how the manager allocates his resources. It may be more practical to leave more money for players by not having an assistant manager but assistant manager wasn't ruled out. That is what happens when you have a budget. Nothing stopping someone though stepping up and saying they will provide funding for an assistant manager. There is also just an assumption that you must have an assistant manager - but how vital a role is it really? Does it need to be a formal appointment?

got to watch what your doing with that one. Colin nish appointed as player/manager sounds too much like mark roberts scenario here at Ayr. It would be handy to have an Ass Manager at any team, just dont hire duds like Andy Millen. He was literally a yes-man.

That's the problem though with assistant managers - do they add value? Sometimes they are just the manager's pal and other times they do next to nothing but pick up a wage. Sometimes though they can make all the difference. There is no hard and fast right answer.

Im sorry but an Assistant Manager is especially vital this coming season. If we can promote within then that could be a choice. Or perhaps again a player/assistant manager role which would be unique in itself as we could have assistant and manager playing at same time. To me not having someone on the sidelines watching certain things (nish will be playing he cant do everything and will need feedback on little bits throughout games) would be a disaster.

I am happy to apply for the role FOC. Im sure muzza and big al would also like to apply so Dave let me know when the interviews are for us 3......lol

They SHOULD add value and if they are not then the manager is not doing his job correctly with his appointments of staff.

I would have thought it was vital to have someone on the sidelines who is ultimately responsible for making tactical decisions, substitutions etc., whilst the manager is on the pitch concentrating fully on playing.

To be fair though our money we do have has to be used wisely and an assistant manager should be at the top of nish's wishlist even above a player if it requires to be. There would be loads of coaches who would give their right nut to get involved in cowden who are of decent calibre and just wanting a chance in the game for relatively small amount of money. A junior manager for example or someone just retired from playing who wants a way in for £40 a week + fuel or something.

Cowdenbeath is an attractive club to join and get on the coaching/management even player wise level.

Correct. It was an assistant manager who was the brains in Danny Lennon's reign.

Even more important if the manager is still playing, he has an impossible job without pitch side assistance.

Get a fucking grip ya sad acts!!!

How? In the past decade we've had 3 former managers/assistants become national managers. Craig Levein, Michael O'Neill and Mixu. We've had Danny Lennon lift the league cup also.

Ayr though I'm sure have had much more success recently.

You could argue that Lennon was an international manager also. He was in charge of Scotland U21s when he accepted the Alloa job

Both Danny Lennon and Michael O'Neil played for Ayr United. Mixu was only there for Marcus tbh. Easily replaceable. Cowdenbeath need an assistant manager while big Colin Pish plays on field.

It would be stupid to think the team would function correctly without a guy on the side doing the tactics and making the substitutions. You need all this sorted for the start of new season.

*the question you meant to ask was why? Not how?*
