If that's the case sofia...

^

Seems to think that suicide is a taboo and somehow less worthy a death than one precipitated by a long hopeless torment.

It's not necessarily his opinion as he's correctly pointing out that there is a huge stigma related to suicide in our society.

Whether you agree with that or not is irrelevant really.

Thanks for confirming the point I was making.

It's pretty clear you were suggesting that Ad lib held that view.

No its not & how do you know he doesn't?

Care to explain what the f**k you were posting about here then?

Sophia is a known idiot.

My best friend growing up's dad committed suicide when he was 18. It's very obvious why that is much much more difficult to deal with. Their family had a lot of difficulty dealing with the thoughts that their dad just didn't love them enough to stay around and watch them grow up.. Graduate.. Get married.. Have kids etc.

Now obviously it's not that simple. But its an entirely understandable mindset for people to fall into.

A sudden death through heart attack or hemorrhage is something tragic of course... But there isn't any reasonable sense of abandonment. I too feared the worst when I heard the news and was glad it turned out not to be suicide.

This is just the shallow understanding of the subject that pervades and its a shame.

Are you trying to suggest it isn't understandable why a 10-year old boy in our society might feel those emotions of rejection or abandonment more strongly if he thought his dad had committed suicide rather than died of a sudden and involuntary failure of his vital functions?

Literally no one here is saying that stigma is desirable or right. All that is being said is that it exists and could make the grief of this tragic loss more difficult for a 10-year old boy to come to terms with.

In much the same way as it is entirely understandable why a gay teenager might self-harm because of the social stigma and stress surrounding coming out, even though it should, for any right thinking person, be as matter of fact a question as what cereal you had for breakfast.

As is normally the case the facile stupidity in the thread is provided by.. You.

Quite why you seem to lack the emotional intelligence to get your pea brain around the concept of suicide of a patriarchal figure as abandonment is alarming to be honest. Not surprising but alarming nonetheless.

Not the point I was making.

Clearly your break from the forum hasn't helped you overcome your need to rely on petty insults and pompous cliches to form an argument. Father would have done just as well, but parent would be more encompassing.

Mmm hmm. Perhaps you could outline the point you were intending to make then , given your absolutely disastrous performance so far on this thread has led to much head shaking and general pity for you.

Charles Kennedy had a highland gentleness about him that was as attractive as it was charming.

That charm and an anti-aggressiveness singled him out as a special person.

In that respect his outlook is a lesson to us all.

I do apologise to Ad Lib and others if my interjections on this thread have been ill formed and difficult to understand.

Perhaps its not the place to shine a torch into a dark place.

I'm now rather confused on my original point but I think it had something to do with Savage Henry's contention that Charlie was made of "sterner stuff".

Charles Kennedy seems to be that rare breed of politician who was widely respected. It's a pity that a thread to commemorate him on here has descended into petty bickering.

Maybe it's time to give it a rest guys.

A shame he was abused by the highland gnats at the end, a shameful party and their easily led sheep masses that don't have a clue who or what they voted for last month and are not likely to work it out.

Not surprised you believe the Daily Mail's disgraceful nonsense.

So gnats and extreme lefties, Kennedy (a high profile highland unionist) did not receive abuse from national socialists?

Not surprised you believe the Daily Mail's disgraceful nonsense.

The Lid Dems themselves say it happened as the DM reported. But never mind, eh. We all know the DM only prints lies and GNATS and other lefties shit smells of lavender,
