The mad competitive West Super Division One thread 2015-2016

Some strange fixture scheduling for next Saturday in our league. Rutherglen Glencairn have no match, while Bellshill Athletic (who have played 2 more games than us) are playing Clydebank for the 2nd time in the league this season. Glencairn and Clydebank have still to play each other twice. It just seems a bit odd, but hey ho, it's another Saturday off for us.

We've yet to play Kilsyth or Cumnock as well Peter

Yes, but at least they have fixtures next weekend. We shouldn't be idle while you play a team you've already played if we haven't played you for the first time yet, especially if the team you are playing have already played two more games than us. It's just not logical.

So folks who do we reckon the promotion and relegation battles are between?

Funnily enough Cumnock having fell behind in games, seem in a stronger position. Ill go for promotion candidates Cumnock, buffs, Largs, bankies and Yoker? Relegation between - Maybole, bellshill, rutherglen and Shotts? Possibly Greenock? Tight league where 3/4 wins/loses in a row will go a long way in sealing your fate.

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that the 2 auto and 1 play-off positions will be filled by 3 out of the current top 4 ... although we've not played 2 of them yet and therefore not seen them ... the results suggest they are the strongest 4 sides. We need to keep beating the teams outwith the top 4 ( which we have to date apart from 2 draws against our friends the Whe Ho ) and look to the top 4 to take points off one another and drop to the teams outwith. I'm still optimistic but the current top 4 are v strong looking

It's one of these leagues where you're never quite safe from relegation until you pass the 33 or 34 point mark, and teams who finish in the top half are sometimes biting their nails until late in the season. We certainly have been a few times before recovering enough to finish top half, and we obviously are hoping we will do the same again. We have a fair bit of work to do right enough.

I think with the quality of players Glencairn have this season it's going to be too much of an ask to avoid the drop.

Time will tell on that one. I'm hopeful we will strengthen the squad in time to climb the table.

Strengthen the squad with whom? It's easier said than done finding unattached quality players at this point of the season. Unless there's a fee involved!

When we add players we'll let everybody know as usual.

Unfortunately a lot of people r telling u that now Peter

Understandably, given our results so far. But we've been in worse positions than this and got out of them before, there are a lot of games to play and a lot can change. In season 2011-12 we took only 11 points from the first 13 games, and then made a few good additions and took 25 points from the second half of the season to finish top half again. So a lot can change, this is a very tight league.
