SNP to Abstain from Fox Hunting Vote

Recommended Posts

They had a free vote on the matter, were they all going to vote for the bill?

Apparently so, rural constituencies and all that. They want Welsh foxes to have the same brutal treatment as Scottish foxes.

there was nothing factually incorrect with what I said, that you are thick to offer a justification for the snp s actions says more about you than anyone else.

I see one MP quoted as saying he'd vote with the government, I don't know what the other 2 were planning on doing, unless there is some quotes attributed to them I don't know how it can be said that Plaid were voting for the bill.

Wednesday's vote would have thrown up some interesting alliances. In the last parliament, Plaid Cymru and the SNP were treated as a single parliamentary group at Westminster, but Plaid's three MPs were expected to vote with Tory MPs to relax the ban.

Plaid parliamentary leader, Jonathan Edwards, told me: "It is a free vote for Plaid Cymru MPs and I have to make a decision when votes are presented to the House of Commons how I believe it would be better for me to represent my constituents in those circumstances.
"With this particular issue my position my position is that it would improve livestock protection for the farming community and the farming community is obviously a key stakeholder in my constituency."

In the same way Scottish MPs have no say on Spain's laws on bullfighting, they should have no say on England's laws on fox hunting.

Spain is not part of the UK, nor do they pass laws in the UK Parliament. If English want to have devolved issues sorted by England, then they should pay the price and form an English Government devolved from their MPs and Westminster. Until such time any Scottish Based MP has just as much right as one based in England.

I know but he is the 2nd union type to come on and basically spout snp baaaaad and making a complete arse of it

The only people making a complete arse of it are the snp, they(sturgeon) made clear they would not vote on matters that did not concern scotland they made a big point of that during the election campaign, now they say different.

They do have a say though. If any MP had a say on the bullfighting issue, even though it happened in Spain I would hope they would vote to ban it.

Do you really think you'll get me biting? You're absolutely lost without Supras.

What exactly do you mean by "biting"?

What's happened here is you've madee a total and utter c**t of yourself by inventing a completely ludicrous scenario of "thousands" of Scots contacting their MPs about... foxhunting.

And having realised the complete tit of yourself you've made, you are now scrambling desperately away from the mess you've left on this thread.

Also, I have no idea at all why you mention Supras in every post. You seem to be utterly gutted he no longer posts here. Again, not sure why that is, but perhaps you can explain?

On one level it's a bit petty of the SNP to do this, but the point they are making is reasonable one. If it is OK for English votes to zap all of their amendments on Scottish legislation even when there was cross party support involved in a Scottish context, why should Scottish MPs not be voting on England and Wales legislation? If there is going to be an effective veto for English MPs, then the MPs of all four (or three in certain circumstances when England and Wales form one entity) home nations should have an equitable ability to shape legislation emanating from Westminster that is aimed solely at their part of the UK.

My Lib Dem MP voted against the ban when it was before the house 10 years or so ago. Sure some Labour MPs did too. Kate Hoey was one I think.

Which point is this?

Is it the one where they said they were standing by their policy of not doing this, or the one where they weren't?

I don't, its got nothing to do with them.

The Tories proposals merely bring Westminster into line with holyrood, the ultra super socialist SNP have done nothing to tighten the laws on fox hunting whilst in power.

Thousands of them you claimed...

Got any proof for that claim? Sounds utter utter lies.

I work for an MP. I have just finished replying to over 200 emails asking the MP to vote against amendments to the fox hunting act from constituents.

If that level of concern is replicated around the country, I think it's same to assume it would be in the 1000's aye.

Did anyone say that? What I did say was, that people got in touch with their MP's because they felt it was an issue they should act on.

Although I believe voting against is the right thing to do I doubt many of our MPs have had constituents raise it with them. I think folks will have more important (to them) things to raise.
