Fife Cup

Recommended Posts

They really need to do away with this pishy cup, when Cowden and East FIfe don't even care anymore, that's when you know, especially with the regionalisation (probably not even a word but f**k it) of the league cup.

Why not play the games on Saturdays during International weekends when no league football is scheduled, those fans who can't do without their weekly fix of football will still have something to watch.

In 2011-12 they played the ties on the midweeks before the autumn internationals and got all 4 played with an aggregate attendance of about 1,200.

In subsequent seasons a number of the completed ties have been played on international and Scottish Cup dates.

Problem is you don't know if the clubs will have exited the Challenge or Scottish cups.

According to this:

http://scottishleague.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5002

* 2014-15 declared incomplete - Dunfermline v Raith final unplayed

* 2015-16 awarded to East Fife - their 1-0 win v Cowdenbeath in Semi-Final = only tie played. Similar mechanism used in 2013-14 (Cowdenbeath 2-1 win v East Fife in Preliminary = only tie played).

* 2016-17 - to be drawn, cup will continue

These facts alone are enough to declare that no one cares anymore. Dunfermline v Raith left unplayed when they aren't even in the same league and it could generate some much needed income - not even the club's give two hoots obviously

Obviously the clubs feel that the games don't generate enough interest as the clubs involved have to pay for stewards, police, catering etc. Sad, but there it is.

I seen it listed at the bottom of the preview for the Pars under 20 cup game with Berwick tomorrow on their OS as their next game so I presume it will be both sides under 20 players. Both sides don't have under 20 league games this week so at least gets the Fife Cup game out of the way.
