Sad development... In the wake of Tarff Rovers and Stranraer Athletic they are the third of the 'smaller' or 'non-traditional' clubs to have won the SOSL in recent decades then folded a few years later. Only 7yrs ago they were playing in the Scottish Cup itself.

Are there just too many Senior clubs now with Annan, Gretna, and most obviously the recent proliferation in and around Dumfries with Lochar, Heston, YMCA, Mids, etc.?

Probably true .The number of clubs in the South and the young population of the area does not add up. Credit to the clubs that keep going and something for the Southern Counties AGM to think seriously about when they think about bringing in Central belt clubs. Financial support is difficult to find for so many clubs.

There's nowhere near the amount of adult teams in this area compared to say the early 80's. There used to be the South league, two leagues in the Saturday amateurs containing 26 teams, think Sunday league had two divisions then there was the Sunday pub league as well.

What have we got now 14 teams in the South league and two leagues on a Sunday, no Saturday amateurs or pub league so possibly between 35-40 less teams than there used to be.

Think the biggest issue could be finance with pitches, referees, linesmen and travel all to be paid for.

Does anybody think that part of the problem is Sat/Sun issue??

It is unbelievable that if you play for ie Lochar in the south that u can't play on a Sun for ie the bombers with your pals

In England u could be playing in EvoStik league for Workington Reds making £100 per week yet still eligible to play on a Sunday morning with your pals

Remember when footy used to be about fun?!

Think it's possible that it is part of the reason! But with the talk of the SFA integrating the amateur, welfare, senior, junior and Sunday/pub sides together for the Scottish Cup there would have to be some sort of rules barring you playing for multiple teams...

Sorry to hear about the crichton decent bunch o lads. I think the league need to have a good look at how they arrange their fixtures like the teams from the shire down at uppers or mids mid week with boys not finishing work till 5.30 , a bit of common sense or we might see more teams struggling.

If you are paying your players you probably don't want them getting injured while playing Sunday League. Makes no sense for amateurs though.
