For anyone who has played sport at any sort of decent level will tell you, it is very hard to gain fitness while in-season due to the stresses already placed on your body, and if you were to work you body to the required level to gain fitness it would have a significant negative impact on competitive performances. Strength and conditioning coaches generally focus all the conditioning work in the off season, and don't test fitness much outwith it.

For Stevo preseason will be the time to regain fitness but i do agree he needs to earn a contract extension first....

You're wrong, he never done a pre season with Partick.

He played for them twice in pre season at least after a quick google so he clearly did.
