Really disappointed with the news, some nights up at Broadwood there are numerous teams training and I have seem first hand the dedication and commitment shown by the various coaches.

Gutted for all the kids that are now left without a club through no fault of their own.

Hope the decision makers know what they are doing, and everything pays off in the long run!!!

I work beside a woman who got the following message in relation to it. Her boy was in the U'13's.

"It's Chris from Clyde, tonight after a meeting with board members, it was concluded that the pro youth academy would not be being run next season and therefore no 13s for your kids to be part of. A letter will be sent to you over the next few days with reasoning and also a website announcement, with a contact to direct your thoughts and questions towards. Just giving a heads up in advance to if possible cushion the blow and allow as much time as possible to seek new clubs. Although I never got the chance to work with the boys, thanks for everything them and yourselves put in, I'm as disappointed as you are about the situation and still digesting it. Thanks again and good luck in the future, Chris"

Shocked me to hear that the academy was scrapped at Clyde FC this evening. So sorry for all the coaches who have given their time and effort over the years....sad news.

I totally agree with you on that. Sad state of affairs. If any young goalkeeper who was part of the set-up requires to keep themselves fit with specialist sessions until they find a new club, I would gladly welcome their parents/ guardians to send me a PM and our Academy set-up will help them until they are back in football. Our coaches are currently working with young goalkepers who have been released at various clubs. It is that time of year I am afraid, but the news that Clyde have scrapped an important part of any club is still very disappointing. I hope we can help them/parents/guardians in some small way.

Firstly Paul shields done okay without* coaching schools

Sounds a cost cutting exercise re youth though how many players in last 20yr have worked their way fae 13s into 1st team squad.?? .More like when they get 17/18 some bigger club says we.ll have him for a friendly & away you go.

1st team matters im afraid just now for me.

Further to that, I've long been of the opinion that youth teams are a totally pointless exercise. For Clyde, an U19 (or U20 as I think it is now) team is all you really need.

For community involvement you run football classes for the community; not teams where players come from miles over.

rumours had it the club want to restructure the youth programmes if truth be told how many players has it produced ? most fans only interested in first team but if you get the proper youth system in place likes of Queens Park , Livingston accies then it will pay off

for me at the moment it's far more important we get out div 2 than throw money at a youth system

promotion is the only priority

Pretty much agree with 80% of the Clyde fans posts' above, but its yet another fucking situation that outsiders to the club, which im afraid to tell those sending kids to youth clubs then tarting them up in Old Firm strips, is exactly what they are, find out important information before 'owners'. Not even a question on the OS. Pathetic all round.

Cpl o hings chum.

OS ran by volunteers and takes time to post up news. Due to social media and general news will always come out good or bad before OS like 90% players weve signed this summer

Secondly when u can reply to a text quicker than 24hrs and im still waiting you cani slag anyone for reply:D

I think in this case, the coaches broke the story to parents probably minutes after the decision being made to those directly involved which has then found it's way on here. Can't really fault the club on that.

edit: mind you, Willie O'Neill did leave a whole fortnight ago so surely he knew the script.

Ps SSB - aye.

And that is entirely their right, in answer to both of you. A lot of good people's hard yards were unfortunately in vain. What we don't officially know anyhing about, is why....it's a pretty big chunk of the clubs off-field activity, and something which was stuck to religously since the formation of the CIC and even before then. Deciding to abandon it will im sure have been no easy decision, but one based on a particular direction the club appear to be taking. It's fairly obvious what that direction is, but very little has come out regarding any of those important matters. I appreciate the fact it is run by volunteers, and im not singling this issue out as being treated in any way, good bad or indiffrrent, as none of the facts arecat hand. Its just that it always seems to be the case.

I cant say that I am to fussed with this news. If we had a stream of players that were being produced by the club then it would be a bad move but it must be a large drain on resources and as pointed out we should be putting all available funds into getting out of Division 2.

The best player we have "produced" in the last few seasons is Scott Ferguson who was picked up after being released by Rangers a couple of years ago. This should be our way of doing things at the moment is to try and pick up young players being released from SPL and Championship teams and putting them into the U20's team and maybe we can get a couple more good players for the 1st team doing it this way.

Reminiscent of Dick Campbell binning our youth system in order to invest in first team players like Graeme Gibson, Darren Brady and Stephen McConalogue. Does the decision have anything to do with this new Colts team that has sprung up in Cumbernauld?

I can understand why some fans see the operation of a youth system as futile; it's expensive and takes a long time to bear any fruit. But for clubs like the Clyde's and Thistle's of this world, I think it's the only sustainable way forward. This is the time that Clyde should be sowing these seeds in preparation for the years ahead where they'll be hoping to compete back at the level they used to.

I don't agree with the notion that you only need an U20 team - if you only run one youth team, I think it becomes less about development and more about merely competing at whatever level. Lambie realised that we needed to enter an U21 team back in 2002 and filled it with haddies, many of whom never played for a senior club again.

To develop younger players, I reckon there needs to be a progressive system in place to aid their development. We were lucky to pick up a Celtic cast-off in Bannigan who went into our U17's when he first signed - if we had only operated an U20 team, he wouldn't have had a look in because he still had a lot of developing to do, both technically and physically. Would Clyde have managed to get Ferguson after his release from Rangers if there wasn't a pathway to the first team via the youth teams?

Short-term thinking, long-term loss in my opinion.

I don't even think that Ferguson played for our youth teams. I think he was signed with a whole host of other players for our U18's and within a few weeks of signing he was in the first team squad at the start of last season and since then he has played only in the first team.
